The DATC climate control head with the heated/cooled seats can be checked with a self test. Until now there were no instructions for the later LS's with the heated/cooled seats. After taking my car to Ford the mechanic could not find out how to do it either. He called the tech. hot line and got the correct instructions.

Push the OFF and DEFROST buttons at the same time. Then press AUTO. The unit will perform a self test and if everything is all right the display will light all the segments and display a row of 8's. If any other number appears write it down. That's your error code. The ignition needs to be on but the car can be running or not. After the test press any button to exit test mode.

Just the 2003-2006 cars with heated/cooled seats. The early cars as well as the 2003-2006 cars WITHOUT heated/cooled seats have the correct test procedure in the Helm shop manual.
