Brake rotor problems?

Has anyone encountered problems with their rotors? Both my rear outside rotors have deep grooves worn into them.Bought the car with 8000 miles on it and rotors were already "cut".Dealer checked them out and said they were with in tolorence but that doesn't seem right to me.Almost as if pads were worn out[metal to metal]then replaced without turning or replacing rotors. The dealer assures me this isn't the case, they want me to wait untill i'm closer to the end of the warrenty to have them fixed.Any ideas?I may just upgrade.

I'd do one of two things: Take it to another dealer for a second opinion, and or take it to a garage you trust and have them look at it too. If it is worn past the minimum thickness for the rotor, it needs replaced, pad too, because they proabably have an abnormal wear pattern as well.

I'm a little pessimistic when it comes to dealers... your comment about waiting till it's later in the warranty makes me wonder if they suspect that the rear calipers are hanging up and chewing the rotors early. They then can get by with 2 $15 dollar rotors, as opposed to rotors and calipers, and you're stuck with it the next time it goes belly up...

Unless you're a hard driver, ie speed and brakes... I don't know that I'd spend the money for a brake upgrade, particularly the rear, without doing something to the front first. Typically only 10% of the braking of a vehicle is done in the rear. The LS might be different because of better weight balance, but still it's not 50%. I dunno... that's just my two cents worth. Just get a second opinion that's the safest thing.

Thanks for the responce. If i upgrade it will be front and back. What concerns me is if the calipers are hanging up it would cause more wear but why the deep groves?Someone told me yhat the newer composit pads will wear uneven but the only time i've seen rotors like these there was metal to metal!I can tell by just looking the groves are to deep to have the rotors turned but the dealer says "the brakes are within specified tolorences".Looks like I have an uphill battle ahead of me.

if you are gonna do any - do both. The LS does wear out the rear brake pads faster than the front - due to the traction control features, the car is applying rear brakes (in some extent) in almost every turn you make. So it's the rear brake pads that wear out first - catching alot of people by surprise (who naturally check the fronts) and then therears wear to the point of grinding on the rotor.

I personally would not drive around with gouged rotors. You can pick up a set off e-bay for +$200.

I am looking into machine blank rotors into slotted rotors within the next month here at my machine shop. Does anyone know where I can get my hand on 4 or more sets of brake rotors for a good price?

I just saw Raybestos rear rotors for $16 each at CSK which seems way below the average for "cheap" rear rotors of around $30 or so.

The fronts seem to float at around $50 or so each for the "cheap" ones and about $15 higher for "premium."

Didn't have a lot of luck with ebay for blanks, everything on there seems to already be drilled and or slotted but I didn't spend a lot of time looking.

Try www.tirerack.com. IIRC, they have Brembo solid (still vented) rotors.

Guys... a Buddy of mine just put me onto a website called www.rockauto.com They have listings for just about anything you can think of. I found brake rotors on there for under $15 each, front and rear, along with brake shoes. I have no idea the quality, but I will let you know, as I will be placing an order here very shortly for brakes on all 4 corners. They also have the coilpacks for about 34 bucks a hit too.

I'll keep you posted on what I find out, when I find out. Hope this helps!

Rock Auto has been around for a while, although I have never used them, the folks that have ordered fromthem are very pleased.

Thanks KLtus! Rockauto sounds like a winner to me. I will post my prices for slotted rotors as soon as I complete a set.

LS4ME I looked into Brembo vented blanks and if you are not upgrading the caliper then you are just throwing your money away. I think Rockauto is the winner for my first set.

Anyone even interested in a set? I am asking cuz I am willing to order 2 full sets here within this week, just as long as we are under the agreement that you buy them from once I am done. IM me at Yahoo or email me! Thanks again.

Thanks a lot Slagburn for post those pics. Well let me know what you guys think? I should have my first of rotors in Friday and hopefully I can supply anyone with the desire of slotted rotors at a awesome price.

Pricing is not set as of yet but needless to say they will be quite a bit cheaper the PowerSlot rotors. Input is welcomed!
