Ls Cam Position Sensor.........

I Am New To This Sight. I Have A 2000 Ls With Some Issues. The Car Idles Rough, Hesitates And Misses During Acceleration, Sometimes The Engine Dies When Accelerating Hard, And Gives Check Transmission Message. I Had The Codes Ran And Was Told It Was The Cam Postion Sensor. From What I Hear It Is Not Too Difficult To Do. I Just Wanted To See If Anyone Out There Has Any Insight On The Issue. Thanks.

not sure what advice you are looking for....

The cam sensor is fairly easy to swap - it's on the backside of the passenger cam housing IIRC...

I wanted to get your opinion on the problems I am having. Does it sounds like the cam postion sensor? Also will I have to move alot of stuff out of the way to get to it? It sounds pretty easy, just wanted to know if there was anything I was going to run into.
Thanks

well, if it says thats what it is.... then thats most likely what it is... You need to get a manual it will tell you what to do. They are floating around here somewhere.

I am also interesting in this. I had a response to my problem and someone mentioned that this could be one of my (many) issues.

Any suggestions on how to change the cam sensor (and cost of the part) would be appreciated.

plugs and coil packs..try that....have you ran a diagnostic on it yet?...

Plugs and coil packs were done recently. I had the computer scanned at Auto Zone and they said the code was related to the cam positioning sensor. I forget what the code was exactly.

In response to 2000LSMICHAEL.......the sensor cost was $80 at Auto Zone. They had to order it but it is shipped overnight.

.... This would be a part I would buy from ford.

Hope its not a V8 because there is NO room on the back of the engine.

you did not say if it was a V-6 or V-8, profile is blank, a new ford sensor is between 33. and 107. depending on the engine size.

It's a V-8. Any reason why you would buy the part from Ford and not a parts store?

The main reason to go O/E is that it is such a pain to change that you would want an exact part and correct part the first time. Most aftermarket part are made for several different cars and has broarder range of specs to fit them. The O/E is made specifically for the vehicle requested so I feel is the better choice in the electronic parts and sensors. That P/N XW4Z-6B288-BA for the v-8 lists for $107.76 and LVC cost is $58.19 plus frt.
IMHO

Thank You for updating your profile....it will make a big difference when asking questions about your car, for others to find the correct response for you.

Ok. Today When The Check Engine Light Came On I Went And Had It Scanned. It Was P0174. It Reads That The Pcm Is Reading The Fuel System For Bank 2 To Be Too Lean. I Need Some Help With This One.

Also When I Went To Replace The Cam Positioning Sensor, I Can't Find It! Does Anyone Know Exactly Where It Is And Have Any Tips On Replacing? Will The Cam Position Sensor Set Off The Current Code?

Not to bust your balls on terminology but... coil packs are FAR different than coil on plug, or just straight up coils. Coil packs are exactly that... a pack of coils; most mid 90's to early 00's car ran coil pack(s). In this application, you still have plug wires. One of the downsides is that coil packs generally batch fire the coils (not ALL of them, but at least paired sets). It's a very very different ignition.

if your cam position sensor is out of wack, it could cause a lean bank... is that the same side as your sensor issue?

Was your problem solved with the cam position sensor? Currently my vehicle is doing the same thing you're describing. If I give it a bit of gas, it'll bog down and either die down, or send the tranny into the clunking mode. I have to very slowly get up to speed. I guess this is good on mileage, but still sucks when i need to pass other vehicles. Let me know if the cam position sensor did anything to help out your situation.

I Couldn't Get To The Cam Sensor To Change It. My Ls Has Been Sitting In My Garage..........i Need To Find The Time To Work On It. I Do Have A Trouble Code That It Threw And It Said That One Bank Of The Engine Is Running Lean. It Might Be A Fuel System Issue.

Here you go. This should help anyone that needs instructions installing a new CMP in their LS.

That is a good deal. I saw the Alldata price for $100.64 for that P/N so $58 plus shipping is not bad at all.
