jgnwi February 23rd, 2008, 06:24 PM I i decided that the next time i change my oil i would buy Royal Purple Synthetic and then my neighbor said that it wont do anything for a Ford. Does anyone know anything about this or has anyone ever herd of this? appriciate any info about this.
lscmkviii February 23rd, 2008, 07:40 PM I use royal purple and I love it!
Movie Muscle February 23rd, 2008, 08:07 PM Check out the independant tests. Some university students have tested it and proven the hp gain. Tv shows have dynoed cars ,dropped all fluids, redynoed and got the numbers to prove the claims royal makes are legit. One of the hotrod mags did a top ten best dollars for horsepower and royal made the list ...low number though ten or nine. I run royal and so do friends. All Fords ....but it can be picky. It only works when the window is down on the passenger side, with no one in the seat and a dwarf in the trunk smoking a pipe with 1/3 tobacco and 2/3 oregano.

21stcenturygadgetguy February 23rd, 2008, 10:18 PM So what does everyone use in their Mark VIII's? Synthetic, or regular oil? So far, I have been a regular oil guy. Should we switch?
jgnwi February 23rd, 2008, 10:21 PM not really sure i just decided to try osmething new but it was a little bit pricey but i think in the long run its worth the extra money
98LSC32V February 23rd, 2008, 10:30 PM I use Amsoil 0w-20, it has less drag on the engine than even Royal Purple and better protection.

Frankly, I think your neighbor is an idiot.
I only use Royal Purple. It is worth it in the long run. HP is better, engine runs smoother and cooler, and the gas mileage increases.
jgnwi February 24th, 2008, 12:44 AM I think so too. all i hear is good things about Royal Purple . It was recomended to me by my cousin and that it is a good choice for my Mark VIII.
MERIJONS97LSC February 24th, 2008, 08:58 AM  First of all for your neighbor to say Royal Purple doesn't work on Fords is a stupid statement. Now if he said all cars , Then thats his opinion, probably bases on some other idiot's opinion, which was based on another idiot's opinion and so on and so on! Handed down from idiot to idiot!!
 Royal Purple is a great product, With many benefits over regular oil.
( Now of coarse it's just my opinion! LOL LOL LOL)
chickenviii February 24th, 2008, 10:08 AM sounds like your neighbor likes GM crap (or at least is anti ford) just look him in the eye and calmly tell him hes a idiot and walk away
The_purple_lincoln_slayer February 24th, 2008, 11:37 AM I got royal purp. Its beast.
tacklebox February 24th, 2008, 11:24 PM I got amsoil in it now. Might switch to royal purple. I've ran amsoil for a long time, have to be pretty good stuff to switch.
cfischr February 25th, 2008, 01:48 PM actually i just saw on horsepower tv this weekend a dyno test with royal purple against regular conventional oil. 8 hp increase with the royal purple.
Calabrio February 25th, 2008, 02:59 PM How is that? How can you pick up 8 hp at the rear wheel by changing to a different oil.....
Jafeb February 25th, 2008, 03:06 PM I use Mobil One in my Mark... Should I switch to Royal Purple? I was told from a mechanic it works the same...
jgnwi February 25th, 2008, 05:24 PM How often do you guys recomend changing that oil when useing Royal Purple?
21stcenturygadgetguy February 25th, 2008, 06:04 PM What kind of increase do you all see in gas mileage? What kind of cost is it per quart? Good thread all, thanks!!
98LSC32V February 25th, 2008, 06:14 PM How often do you guys recomend changing that oil when useing Royal Purple?
5000-6000 miles on any synthetic.
Roadboss February 25th, 2008, 06:45 PM I use Mobil 1, but I make sure I pour it in with a plain brown bag wrapped around it so neither the engine nor the oil knows which is which. I don't want no bitchin, I'm the boss.

ask the guys on horse power tv, i didn't do the test.
chickenviii February 25th, 2008, 09:42 PM How is that? How can you pick up 8 hp at the rear wheel by changing to a different oil.....
it was a eng dyno, so prob a hose or so at the wheels, but its been tested many times, maybe less friction, but people swear by it. i will say that i switched to 5w20 synthetic (motorcraft oil) and dropped .1 off the 1/4 mile, might of been a fluke though
jgnwi February 27th, 2008, 06:38 PM Thanks for all the help everyone.
Kevin O'Connell February 27th, 2008, 09:27 PM I run Mobil One, 5-6K, its about $5-6 per quart. I just want the longest lasting engine i can get.
I agree that friction reduction can free up HP, but enough to feel in the seat of your pants- maybe. HP TV did do a good report on it.
I grew up in the early days of stuff like Slick 50 and it worked good.
I'd like to see what's available to improve trans and differential performance, as well.
jgnwi February 28th, 2008, 05:20 PM Does my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII have limited slip or posi ??
kustomizingkid February 29th, 2008, 08:37 AM Nope, no factory Marks had tlocks.
turborich February 29th, 2008, 11:23 AM I have always used Mobile1, However since it cost so much I switched to Motorcraft semi-synthetic 5-20 this time around. It's half the price of Mobile1 & I'm sure that it's good quality oil since it's a genuine Ford product. I always use a Motorcraft filter as well.
As far as Royal Purple goes, I'm sure that it's a very good oil & doesn't discriminate against fords or any other manufacturer. I prefer Mobile1 but I'm not going to pay $35 bux to do my own oil change.
If you properly maintain your engine & change your oil when you should then I really think that conventional oil would be just fine. The synthetic is just better.
Roadboss February 29th, 2008, 12:25 PM Synthetic motor oil becomes more important to engines with higher outputs with larger fuel injectors or fuel consumption. They have enhanced friction , anti foaming, and anti corrosion properties to add protection to the vitals against the presence of unburnt fuel as well. Generally not a biggy, but if your are running boost you should be running a synthetic.
98LSC32V February 29th, 2008, 01:24 PM Motorcraft semi synthetic is cheap and very good for 5000 mile oil changes.
kustomizingkid February 29th, 2008, 02:03 PM I have heard a lot of good things about Motocraft oil. I'm contemplating it with my Vic, regardless of the oil I use Wix filters.
Sal329 February 29th, 2008, 06:16 PM I've been tossing around the idea of goin with Royal Purple but I get free BMW synthetic (castrol) 5w30, so it makes it hard to go out and want to actually pay for oil.
jgnwi February 29th, 2008, 06:44 PM Can't really beat free i guess but like i said before i use Royal Purple and so far its really good .. I love it.
jgnwi March 11th, 2008, 03:22 AM How often should my transmision fluid be changed? How should I go about changing the fluid
