'03 electric fan failure

Well my '03 LS8 needs a new fan at 70,000 miles. I've owned the car for two months and checked the fan's function before buying. Imagine my shock when I found out list price is about $525:eek: There seems to be no aftermarket fan available. I believe the fan has a control module also built into it. After lots of research, I found an aftermarket distibuter of Ford/motorcraft parts (Motive Parts). I'm paying $275 which stings a little but won't leave me brusied. I've searched LVC forums and didn't see a history of issues with the electric fans. Has anyone else here had issues with an LS electric fan?

I've not heard of any...

And if you ask me, that isn't really too bad of a price...

And if you ask me, that isn't really too bad of a price... Yes, I'd say it's a great price considering Ford's list price. Are you in Lansing, IL?

Nope...

Lansing, Michigan

Another guy here is from Grand Rapids... I was like: "grand rapids Michigan?!?!?!?"... he says: "no, Grand Rapids MN"

Anyway, I go through chicago once in a while, have a friend that lives in WI (engineer for kohler) and a friend that lives in Quincy IL (engineer for Knapp Hyde).

Replace the belt while you're at it, whether you need to or not.

I changed the fan and the belt today. I had about 3 hrs into it. It's probably about a 6 out of 10 on the DIY scale. It not a gimme kinda job, in fact It was kinda a pain is the azz. There's almost no room. I had to remove the intake tract, right top radiator bracket, and the top radiator hose from the radiator so I could move the ac accumulator to get the fan out. Both the heat control valve and aux water pump can be left in place but must be unbolted.

Thanks for the belt heads up:) It's got to be almost impossible to change with the fan in place.
