MonsterMark February 7th, 2008, 12:02 AM Seems there was a dust up in the LS forum today.
Would you guys like to see heavier moderation on the forum or would you like to continue to moderate yourselves?
aaronearles February 7th, 2008, 12:05 AM We may get a little rowdy, but it's all in good fun :D .
Aquabrit February 7th, 2008, 12:39 AM Maybe just a polite PM to repeat offenders, reminding them of the rules of conduct which they agreed to when they registered?
rickztahone February 7th, 2008, 12:57 AM ^^
couldn't have said it better myself
cammerfe February 7th, 2008, 01:11 AM Maybe just a polite PM to repeat offenders, reminding them of the rules of conduct which they agreed to when they registered?

NateRW21 February 7th, 2008, 01:31 AM Maybe just a polite PM to repeat offenders, reminding them of the rules of conduct which they agreed to when they registered?

Snowseeker February 7th, 2008, 02:54 AM I kinda enjoy some of the arguing at times for some humor.
lseguy February 7th, 2008, 07:12 AM Let it ride.
GrayGhost1 February 7th, 2008, 08:30 AM I know that I ususally send a polite PM to someone that is getting a little out of hand. We are all adults here and if we ACT like adults then everything should be fine. My 2 cents anyway as a moderator.
glanga February 7th, 2008, 08:32 AM I think the threats and name calling yesterday were harmless defensive tactics. Should the threats ever become real then it's very easy for someone to report the post or PM a moderator. Maybe put a sticky up about this since people don't know about it?
owlman February 7th, 2008, 09:10 AM Move those posts/topics to the off-topic forum or some pit section. Or delete em. Waste of space. Imagine for example if some poor newbie is looking for info on K&N filters and finds all those crap threads.
well, just my 2cents!
camthman February 7th, 2008, 09:19 AM Hey where is NYC LS8?? Hes been having some fun lately, IM sure he can chime in. LMAO
controller77 February 7th, 2008, 09:24 AM I think the majority of people don't seem to have a problem. I personally find most of it funny. But if there are certain individuals who can't seem to control themselves and repeatedly get out of hand, then they can be dealt with.
NYC LS8 February 7th, 2008, 09:44 AM Hey where is NYC LS8?? Hes been having some fun lately, IM sure he can chime in. LMAO
:shifty:
I just don't take kindly to people coming on this site talking all kinds of smack. You want to have an intelligent debate, that's fine. But once you start flying off the handle and cursing like a 13 year old, that's when I have a problem and open my mouth. There is no need for that kind of talk. I admit I may have stepped over the line a tad yesterday, but I'd like to think that my contributions here to try and help people on the forum as well as offering my personal time to help others near me outweigh whatever happened yesterday.
The forum is run fine the way it is now. We could use some of those stickies up top to be removed (like the racing a Mark VIII thread as an example ;)). If there is a problem thread, like has been mentioned, use the report post icon/link and let the admins/moderators take care of it.
That's my 2 cents.
chriswells78 February 7th, 2008, 10:39 AM I used to post a lot, but once my LS got to where I wanted it, I just lurk mostly. Forums usually do a pretty good job of moderating themselves. You have the occational moron who gets out of hand but they usually give up when people flame them too bad. Eventually they leave.
pektel February 7th, 2008, 10:56 AM only to be reincarnated - Rbones/LSVIPDEMON/dunitright... I think there was another one too...
glanga February 7th, 2008, 10:58 AM eliotnessls
mespock February 7th, 2008, 10:59 AM Remember this
Our rules are very simple right now. First, this is a PG-13 rated site - please keep your posts PG-13 in nature - Second, we simply ask you be nice to the other members when you post. We dont want fights, flames or trolling here. Basically, thats all we ask, other then that, have a ball!
GrayGhost1 February 7th, 2008, 11:06 AM Rich, I believe that was the same advise Joey gave me on another issue we had. Basically, there are no hard fast rules other than respecting each other on the forums. My motto is , if you can't act like an adult then this isn't the place for you.
xarruda89x February 7th, 2008, 11:25 AM I agree with the stickies there are some that are pointless ...
pektel February 7th, 2008, 11:27 AM eliotnessls
i knew i forgot one...
lseguy February 7th, 2008, 11:37 AM after reading the "fastest car you smoked" thread, can I change my vote and initial response? Im thinking suspending one or two people who have been deemed repeat offenders/warned and they are obviously providing little if ANY positive info to the forum, would be a good thing.
02LSE96LSC91SE84TC February 7th, 2008, 11:43 AM I agree little moderation is needed but at some point posts are just going to far and really a waste on time to read. If you find them funny thats fine but for me I just start ignoring alot of the posts and that said I think at some point the thread should be just locked up and forgotten. If another one starts with the same vib, lock it up.
glanga February 7th, 2008, 11:58 AM Just curious who you beleive are "repeat offenders" in that thread.
kwazy February 7th, 2008, 12:14 PM who cares what people say this the internet so lets not be cry babys and if you get your feelings hurt about what people say then dont get on really i dont see it being a problem get rid of old post would be a better idea
jk52781 February 7th, 2008, 12:26 PM The only guy that needs to go right now appears to be Midi-Junkie. He is not contributing to the LS community in a positive way and if you read his previous posts he has always been an instigator. I think having the moderator sending a PM is a great way to keep a person in check. I think it is important to keep the forum a relaxed environment where there is not someone watching your every move.

That's what I did before I was moved to a Moderator... I would look at who made the thread or the post and then never entered.

True but we have agreed to keep the bashing down. If you have an issue with someone then take it to the Private Messages. Then you have the option of not reading them or doing your fighting there.
Even some of the bad thread started with a good post and have some good information.

I owned a forum for 4 years, no one wants to PM each other and argue over private messages. They want to show off and let everyone know who's boss, even though their acting like idiots.
I agree with the Pm'ing PM the member give them a warning, they don't listen, ban then for what ever time you mods decide. Controlling all these people isn't easy, i did it for 4 years and not even with heavy staff, banning, PMing wouldn't do the trick. Some people will always be jerks i guess.
uknowmehfo February 7th, 2008, 01:18 PM alot of people here are of age and should know how to handle how they speak to others but a PM on the "TOS" is a good idea.
mespock February 7th, 2008, 01:40 PM They want to show off and let everyone know who's boss, even though their acting like idiots.
Some people will always be jerks i guess.
Granted you are correct .... and most people after being slammed openly will want to slam back openly.
Just offering a solution to the childish behavior.
MonsterMark February 7th, 2008, 05:13 PM Thread is being temporarily stuck to elicit more responses. Dont' worry, it'll go away soon enough.
97stscaddy February 7th, 2008, 05:23 PM Usually if I come across a thread where people are slamming each other or using in-appropriate language I just ignore it.
I think that anyone who is bothered by something such as what happened this week, should PM a moderator about it or report the thread and the users involved in the spat should be warned and asked to cool it. If that doesn't work the thread should be locked, and the users involved should be suspended for a short time.
If it continues you ban them, not just their user name but their IP address as well.
But it may help to post a sticky, or send out a forum wide PM from time to time, reminding everyone what the rules of the forum are and that they should be followed.
bufordtpisser February 7th, 2008, 06:39 PM Maybe an ignore button would be a good thing. Then if someone irritates you, you don't have to read their messages. I moderate on 3 other forums, and this is the only one that does not have an ignore button.
SoonerLS February 7th, 2008, 07:24 PM Actually, it has an ignore function, it's just not obvious. I've used it once, but as with most e-thugs, that foul mouthed loser moved on, so I don't have anyone in my ignore list now.
I guess I must have missed something, because the only "dust up" I saw was that locked thread, and it was about as bad as schoolyard fight among kindergarteners. I've seen far worse than that around here before, and it always seems to work itself out before too long.
Also, well said, 95stscaddy.
mespock February 8th, 2008, 09:20 AM There is an ignore option click on the Private Message link then at the bottom of the the control options on the left click on Buddy / Ignore Lists option. Enter the person you want to ignore and you will not see their posts unless someone has quoted them.
I used it in the past when there were a few morons on the board that I just got tired of seeing their posts.
And yes those people are long gone...
midi_junkie February 8th, 2008, 10:10 AM lol. i know i had a blast.
We may get a little rowdy, but it's all in good fun :D .
mespock February 8th, 2008, 10:55 AM lol. i know i had a blast.
Maybe you had a blast but right now it's best to be more humble than boastful.
This comment being posted in a constructive manner and to hopefully end the head aches that some of your posts have caused. I'm asking nicely to please follow the rules that have been set by the LvC Administrator and refrain from the fights, flames or trolling.
There are acceptable ways to respond to posts that you feel have been an attack on you.
Garbone February 8th, 2008, 12:17 PM I like this forum when it is spirited. You know, like when you and your car buddies get together and talk smack on the other guys choices...but...with 2 teen boys, and them becoming car guys, and looking over my shoulder...well the profanity definately takes something away from a great site.
To those who choose to talk(and write) like that, it really does get tired.
midi_junkie February 8th, 2008, 01:26 PM sorry. i was being sarcastic. :/ its hard to see true 'emotion' through text. if you go back and read the posts... i was in no way rude in the 'first place'. i know this really doesnt matter.. i started the untactful defensiveness, after in my perception.. i was being attacked. i think posts other people left were completly uncalled for and very rude.. it seemed like some that had never even posted just came in and jumped on the band wagon and started in. regardless of age.. this forum has rules (apparantly) and they were thrown out the window. i dont wish to argue with anyone about what im writing right now. id like to let it be in the past. im also sorry for breaking rules by acting the way i did. i like this forum and alot of the people here. to act out in the way i.. We did.. is not needed by me and im assuming many others here. thanks. again..... i wont debate about this post.. i will automatically ignore anyone who wants to start another ... whatever we did a few days ago.

I understand and agree there were some other posts by others, and this was not only you and others in the past have done similar.
I've even been in your situation where I have been drawn into a spat and understand the difficulty on how hard it is to restrain from the playground talk.
Thanks for your sincerity and let's all now move forward with the fun of LvC...

Joeychgo February 8th, 2008, 03:18 PM You know - there is an old saying a man tells his wife.
If I say something that can be taken more then one way - I meant it in the best possible way.
I suspect there would be alot less bickering if people thought that way about what other people post.
Here is something else to consider. If someone says something rude - IGNORE THE rudeness. Dont be rude back or 'attack' --- then, fights wont happen. The rude people will just look - stupid.
We are all lincoln owners. We all love our cars and we all come here because we love to hang out and shoot the breeze. Why would we need to fight and bicker?
When I started LVC with Geno and Bryan, we all agreed on one main thing. We would not be censors and bullies. Locking threads, editing posts and banning people are only as a last resort. It was our belief that the members could more or less police themsleves and be mature enough to get along without the need of much 'moderation' -- I think this has worked pretty well overall. I believe that is one of the biggest reasons we have over 10,000 members today and great members at that.
Just my .02
Garbone February 8th, 2008, 03:44 PM I personally get real bored at the other Lincoln forums...so I never joined them...only here!
midi_junkie February 8th, 2008, 04:21 PM i honestly wanted to leave.. but this is the exact reason why i havent. whoever posted about the ignore button earlier.. thanks. my mouths too big not to know where it is. :)

:gr_hail: That says it all right there.
decibels5 February 8th, 2008, 09:21 PM Just remember I am still the  est one on here. My Lincoln is bigger than yours. No more and No less moderation is needed in my opinion. Hey where did my GOLD go. Ill get it back.
midi_junkie February 9th, 2008, 12:26 AM on the other thread.. i wasnt talking about you.. i was talking about these two guys.. distorted and the other guy... who came out of nowhere and decided to have a poke..........

aaronearles February 9th, 2008, 12:19 PM It's a Lincoln and Cadillac forum, sometimes I forget we're on here with a bunch of old men! Just Kidding guys :D .

Ok, this guy needs to be banned! Just kidding! :N
mespock February 11th, 2008, 08:31 AM LvC had done a good job as a self Moderated forum. From time to time we get a few threads that lose control. From time to time we get someone in here who just looks for fights (for some reason they don't last long). They piss a few people off but in the long run the good members stick round and the idiots go their own way.
Midi ... I'm sure you have a lot to offer LvC in the future.
midi_junkie February 11th, 2008, 08:37 AM thanks.. i know theres alot of decent people here. im just sorry that i was part of one of 'those' threads. :)

KD00LS April 22nd, 2008, 06:08 PM I don't think it should be settled through harsh language but then again we shouldn't really be having heavier moderation. At the EARLIEST age on here, I think someone might be 16, which I'm sure they have heard more bad words than the next guy. The problem is the racial stuff which we need to moderate more.
With that said... We should settle each dispute by seeing who's dad can beat up someone else's dad.
nightriddah April 22nd, 2008, 06:19 PM Hey KD, do u read a lot of racial blasts on this site??
KD00LS April 22nd, 2008, 06:21 PM Hey KD, do u read a lot of racial blasts on this site??
In that specific thread there were a few.
nightriddah April 22nd, 2008, 06:26 PM curious, what was the thread title??
KD00LS April 22nd, 2008, 06:31 PM Can't remember for the life of me. I'm sure someone knows. Had Spanish slurs in it I believe.
nightriddah April 22nd, 2008, 06:36 PM Ahh, say no more, i recall the subject matter (can' remember the title)
Well, hopefully we can get beyond that one of these days...... it's
a work in progress

Snowseeker December 27th, 2008, 07:44 AM Awefull lot of stickies. Would people agree that compacting them into one FAQ's sticky and/or quick links sticky be less cluttered? Soon it looks as though the first page of this section will be all stickies. :p
