Anyone know how the plastic body molding is attached to the gen 1 cars. The pc I am talking about is the one about 12" up from the bottom of the door and just in front of the rear tire. It's about 3" wide. I am guessing they are taped on???? I need to take them off of a car I am parting out.

tks

No grill.

I found out that the body molds are taped on. Now... how do I get them off with damaging them???

Why do you need to remove them?

you need to get piano wire or a really skinny flathead screwdriver..

get a heat gun and slightly and slowly heat up the end of the molding and either slide the piano wire in there or the screwdriver.. and heat and work as you go along..

ive removed these before and they are a P.I.T.A$$.. !!!!

forgot to mention.. dont bend too much or move too quick as you will f*ck up the molding...

they are held on by tape and 2 or 3 very skinny plastic "pegs".. that insert into the body

i take them off all the time when i part these cars, i have what is called a long blade, its a 30 inch handle that takes a standard double edge razor blade, i slip the blade in from the top of the molding holding it tight to the car and start pulling, like cutting out a windshield, once the top is cut i push it down further and cut the bottom tape, molding falls right off, no bending or chance of wrecking, i have cracked them in the past with other methods, they will split, and instantly too, my blade method works the best for me, and with a new blade, i can cut all 4 moldings off in about 2 minutes. you canbuy a long blade anywhere, home depot, ace hardware, places like that.
