tda13 December 24th, 2007, 10:16 PM Well tonight, my parents were driving the 96 black on black lsc and hit a patch of black ice. Dad lost the car and nailed a telephone pole head on... broke the pole off and it fell across the road and hit a van.
Everyone is ok, but the mark is pretty messed up. Really do not know how bad, but I will get pictures tomorrow and post tomorrow night or on Wed. I am just thankful everyone is ok.
Wishing you all a blessed and SAFE Christmas

ground_zero298 December 24th, 2007, 10:18 PM Must be open season on lincolns.
NYC LS8 December 24th, 2007, 10:38 PM Glad everyone is OK. You can replace the car.

Sergmark December 24th, 2007, 11:34 PM Wow That sucks!!
Not a good way to start the holiday season. Lucky no one is hurt!!
Movie Muscle December 24th, 2007, 11:59 PM Glad they are okay. Marks are safe cars. You parents were in a good car if it had to happen. I know a guy who was t-boned in the drivers door by an Intrepid and the damage was a joke compared to the Intrepid. The door panel was in one piece only partially detached and the outer door was pushed in evenly. He was un hurt and the Intrepid was a right off and was bent nose down from the fire wall. Totally trashed. The Mark only needed a used door and a rocker not even a pull!!! The doors have a good sized side impact beam in the form of a round pipe. I saw mine when pulling off my door panels, I was impressed
slowmkviii December 25th, 2007, 02:40 AM Glad everyone is ok
my deepest condolence's for the mark
I know what it is like
k9t8m December 25th, 2007, 10:29 AM Glad to hear everyone is okay. I wish i could say the same for the mark. And the telephone pole.....
mmtphoto December 25th, 2007, 07:16 PM that's the thing, it was a good Christmas since they are all right-it sucks about the car, but I know alll to well that you stand a better chance of surviving a crash in a Mark-a driver turned in front of my 93 at an intersection with no warning, I was doing about 35 when it happened-raining, I slid into the side of a newer Jeep Cherokee, Mark was history but I was alright. I did not have on my seatbelt, and the airbags went off and kept me from getting hurt. They were cited for failing to yield and I got enough to get my 96, but none of that would have mattered if I had gotten seriously hurt or worse. It can be replaced.
tda13 December 25th, 2007, 11:24 PM Okay... If you have a weak stomach, look away. What you are about to see are the pictures of the car. It actually is not as bad as it looks. as long as the frame is not tweaked, we may be okay. Pushed the front main bumper support all the way back to the radiator and I really have not had a good chance to check it out yet. Will see what they say. Low miles... 40 miles.
Oh yea, I posted a before picture as well.
marked8 December 26th, 2007, 12:27 AM I ripped a guys T-Bird in half with my 96 and did not do that much damage. Stationary objects like that are a bitch to hit.
LINCBRA December 26th, 2007, 01:00 AM Hey, at least your head lights seem to be ok.
rooster1969 December 26th, 2007, 01:22 AM OUCH!! How about a nice red replacement?
Sergmark December 26th, 2007, 02:17 AM Wow. I'm sorry to say , but I think it's toast. Looks like the lower fram rails are bent, the tires are crooked.
Your lucky no one got hurt !!
My 94 had front end damage (if you look at my photo gallery) It wasn't that bad and I fixed it myself...
devilchild December 26th, 2007, 08:54 AM dude...
i think i might cry...:eek2:
Movie Muscle December 26th, 2007, 01:52 PM Yep, she looks done. That much movement in the front bumber will have pulled things around. The tire alignment looks out of whack.
ONEBADMK8 December 26th, 2007, 02:05 PM Sorry to hear this news, especially at the Holidays and all. Glad everyone was ok, sorry for the Mark, one more down. Want to sell the headlights?
Heres a shot of a wicked hit that a Guy and his Wife survived in a Mark.
jamie97lsc December 26th, 2007, 02:36 PM wow that pole deep into that front end. glad they are all ok. heres one i bought for parts from the salvage auction, i have seen many bad crashed marks, bought alot of them too.

tda13 December 26th, 2007, 05:28 PM ok...I am guessing the car is going to be totalled. When you look at the year, the fact that both airbags went off (and expensive fix in itself) and the over all structural damage to the front end, I would say it is gone.
This is my question. I have a 97, this 96 and I am looking at a real nice 94. I would like to buy the car back from the insurance company, but I have never done this. How does it work and what should I expect to give them? Like I said, I know nothing about this, but would like to have the car for parts and to part out. The car has under 40k on it.

You should pay 10% of the total awarded. I paid 440.00 on my 94 when the Kia decided to try and fight me. She had 270ks at the time, I have also had friends buy various cars back, they also paid ten points. This was up in Canada, not sure if same applies for US market.
Movie Muscle December 26th, 2007, 08:24 PM Usually all you have to say is you wish to buy the car back as salvage. The insurance company will then give you a value for the salvage. The amount once agreed upon will then be deducted from the cheque.
In my first and only time doing this, I told them I wanted to buy the car back as salvage. The adjuster gave me a number right there and it was done.
Movie Muscle December 26th, 2007, 08:26 PM The ten point thing does not usually apply to fairly current late models however. The parts are more valuable and in demand.
The Rev December 26th, 2007, 08:26 PM Thank god no one was hurt. That looks pretty bad. If its totaled, how much would you like for the headlights? PM me as i am VERY interested.

You dont have to by it back as salvage I bought a 98 that was hit at 60mph
no salvage title
turborich December 27th, 2007, 04:47 AM Very glad that no one was hurt. You lost a car but your family is still coming home.
What a shame though, I would have cried.
LSCGODDESS98 December 27th, 2007, 07:43 AM hmm wow..it shows if most are saying not injured or many injuries..that shows that mark is a good car-if it savable dont take the cash get the car back in ur yard.thats the way to do it.. and yes of course hittin a stationary object is bad like a pole or'a tree. .lucky no one was hurt in ur accident.once i was a pass of a pole comin at me..no fun being in that seat no air..$#*!
..oh and that white mark showing- they cut the car.
scary stuff..you have to be carful driving..especally a car like ours. treat the car as if it was urself.;D
common sense i think what most are lacking. just thnk some marks could been saved!
FC3 December 27th, 2007, 08:10 AM Thought some of you may be interested in this. It's a few pages from the Mark VIII Product and Marketing Guide that Lincoln produced for the dealers prior to the introduction of the Mark VIII. My salesman gave it to me a little while after we leased our first Mark VIII.Product and Marketing Guide (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/fc3other/ProductAndMarketingGuide.html)
Sorry about the quality, but the book is too wide to fit my flat bed scanner, so I had to photograph them with the camera.
Best regards,
Frank
kustomizingkid December 27th, 2007, 09:21 PM That really sucks, but at least nobody got hurt because that is the most impertant thing.
Whatever happens to the car grab the headlights! I would be interested in buying them even if they are cracked a bit...
tda13 December 27th, 2007, 09:33 PM Well the adjuster looked at the car and would like to total it.... HOWEVER, he only wants to give 4K for the car. I understand the car is a 96, but it does have under 40,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition (just look at the headlights). I understand them totalling the car, but I think 4K is on the low end. They claim the damage is over $7000. and they are probably correct.
They are letting us get a second opinion from a body man that is a friend of the family. If nothing else, maybe we can get a little more than the 4K.
By the way, the adjuster claimed that one headlight is trashed. I have not looked at the car in the daylight as it is not at my home (near my parents home 2 hours away). So for all the PMs and request on the headlights, I really can not make any promises yet. They will let me buy the car back for 10%. I am keeping the motor and tranny to build. If we buy the car back, we will part the rest out. The rest of the car is in near perfect condition.
Today, I was at a company pheasant hunt and the guide had a 94 sitting in his driveway. The car looked pretty good, but the grill was busted out and the hood looked a little tweaked. He hit a deer and they totalled his. He bought it back for $75.00... yep.... $75.00. Before anyone ask, the headlights looked like a cloudy urine specimin.

Movie Muscle December 28th, 2007, 12:01 AM I recieved 4400 for my 1994 Rose Mist with 270ks and rust holes coming thru the rear rockers!! They didn't have a number in their system due to the car being to rare, which meant no on the spot cheque at bodyshop. The adjuster said he would have to enquire with dealers etc. I thought I was going to get screwed and he came back with 4400.00. I bought the car back for 440.00.With very light dammage. I will post numbers from NADA for you below. The formatting will be messed up but it will give low retail and clean retail and high retail. This can be used to argue the amount.
Movie Muscle December 28th, 2007, 12:06 AM Low retail Clean retail High retail
Base Price $2,650 $3,775 $4,725
Mileage - 39,000 miles $1,325 $1,325 $1,325

TOTAL PRICE $4,200 $5,325* $6,275

Movie Muscle December 28th, 2007, 12:09 AM He is low. Tell him to check NADA site.
marked8 December 28th, 2007, 06:29 AM I would not settle for less than $6000 for that car with those miles. The first offer is always a joke.
tda13 January 8th, 2008, 04:36 PM The car is being totalled. We are still working on a deal with the insurance company and trying to settle up. I think we are going to get the 6500.00 or close to it. We are also planning on buying the car back for salvage and will be parting at least some of the car out. As soon as I get all the information, I will post what we are planning on doing.

93zzzt January 8th, 2008, 08:50 PM i got 3500 out of my mark vii on the second offer, with 200k on it. i could have gotten more but i was tired of the whole issue.
tda13 January 14th, 2008, 08:18 PM the car is being parted out. Check it out in the for sale forums if you are interested.
Headlights are spoken for.
