Oil Changes, Tips for '04 owners

If you have an 04' and it is due for an oil change, expect to pay $50 - $75 at the dealer.

If you plan to bypass the dealer and do your own or use one of the quick lube places, make sure you bring along an oil filter. The '04 specs are not in many catalogs yet and most quick lube places will not have an oil filter in stock.

The '04 uses AC/Delco Part Number PF2129. That filter will sell for $10-$15 at most auto parts stores. I checked my local Caddy dealer and found that they sell an OEM version for under $8 (your cost may vary).

One of the reasons for the high cost of an oil change is that the '04 requires Mobil 1 which can run $6-$8 per quart at the dealer.

The lowest cost I have found for a Mobil 1 change is at Wal-Mart. They will perform a synthetic oil change for around $40 (but you will have to bring your own filter since they don't have them in stock yet). Some places will allow you to bring your own oil which can be purchased at most warehouse stores for about $20-$25.
