Droplynx October 29th, 2007, 10:13 PM So, I got myself a 1997 Mark VIII LSC and the front bumper looks like it has been rubbed against something. The paint is chipping horribly and I don't have a ton to drop on getting the paint done. If I get the bumper painted I will just get pissed about how good the bumper looks and the rest of the car not as hott. So I am probably going to get a bra for it, it is my daily driver and it will probably be smarter anyways.
So, next is, where do you guys reccomend I grab one? Any different styles?
Droplynx October 30th, 2007, 05:23 PM No ideas?
slowmkviii October 31st, 2007, 02:47 AM sorry I hate bras on cars. repaint it yourself good practice and it wouldnt look alot better than the rest of the car so it would still match
papa bear October 31st, 2007, 08:43 AM do not put a bra on it:( you can repaint it yourself for under 20 dollars my car has both bumpers painted and the roof and rockers and upper quarter all done by rattle can truck and car dupicolor paint one hour after it dried i power washed the car and still today it looks good after a 100 washes, matters if you now your sanding and feathering plus i did all the chrome black this only cost me like 30 dollars i say do that until you can afford a new paint job on the whole car there is macco $250 for the paint only thing is have it rubbed out after like in a month it will have a little orange peel look to it when it comes out of the booth

mespock October 31st, 2007, 10:10 AM Paint it yourself .... Car bra will only take more paint off and gather more dirt...
Frat-man-du October 31st, 2007, 03:17 PM I had one on my '95. We had a long cross country trip of which ended up on a 25 mile dirt road, so I put a $50 Bra on to save the bug splats and stone chips. Sold it on ebay when we got back. I ordered it from (back then Trak Auto -now Advanced Auto). It was made by Husky if I remember right, it has two parts one for the hood and one for the bumper. You had to order with or with out front license plate. Looked horrible but did it't job well.

Markviiiedrea November 1st, 2007, 06:21 AM Rattle bomb it if its that bad, I even picked up a siphon paint gun for ten bucks at Harbor Freight then I'm going to paint mine with it, just sand, sand, and sand some more. Then when you're done sand some more!
papa bear November 1st, 2007, 06:31 AM i forgot to mention i used dupicolor car and truck paint followed by clear coat thats why her name is rattlecan right now
mespock November 1st, 2007, 08:03 AM You should be able to get the paint matched at many auto part stores. They do it around here.... Cost about $25 to $50 a quart. They do a one stage here that has a clear coat with it so get the clear coat look with out the clear coat.

For the guy above not the one I'm quoting.. ya can't paint your car for $20, materials and paint run a 'bit' more than that...
I agree to paint the car, but try it with base coat/ clear coat, the stuff mespock's talking about doesn't come out looking near as good as color coat followed by five coats of clear then wetsanded and buffed. Even if you paint yourself a good wetsand / buff job should be around $100 for the entire car at a body shop.
Take your time with the masking/ scuffing and painting and you'll be good to go. Use red scotch brite for the scuff but wherever there's rock chips you'll have to sand and take out before paint.
yada yada "no :q:q:q:q" right? oh well.. good luck! Bras are the worst thing on a car imo.
