measured oil amountGoddard-MarkVIII October 27th, 2007, 10:10 PM Has anyone measured the exact amount of oil they put into there mark for the best performance results. 98LSC32V October 27th, 2007, 10:14 PM I usually put in 6.5 quarts, which puts it right at the full line. unity October 28th, 2007, 10:50 AM Use the dip stick, thats what it is for! You will not gain or lose performance based on a half quart of oil. Some say they take 6.5 quarts, some take no more than 6. chicken October 28th, 2007, 11:22 AM i dance right around 6qts, mid of the stick. on a side note my last change i tried 5w20 (ford recommends it now for gas millage gains, so they say) but i went to the drag strip a few days later, and i dropped a tenth. IM NOT SAYING IT WAS DEFIANTLY THE OIL but i haven't made any performance mods and i used to hit a 15.2, and with the 5w20 i hit 15.1's consistently. dont flame or bitch, im just saying it might be worth a shot  98LSC32V October 28th, 2007, 12:45 PM The thinner the oil the less drag on the engine. I don't think it makes that much of a difference going from 5w-30 to 5w-20 but if you used a 10w-40 and go to 5w-20 the difference will definitely be noticeable. I have Amsoil 0w-20 in my 98 LSC right now. slowmkviii October 28th, 2007, 04:02 PM are you woried about the amount of rotating mass or windage you should be able to get a crank scraper for around $80 chicken October 28th, 2007, 04:24 PM i wasnt worried about it, just saying. i tried 5w20 cuz its the same price as 5w30 at work, and when i went to the track, i beat my best time and removing a oil pan on there arnt fun Goddard-MarkVIII October 28th, 2007, 05:28 PM 5w20 is the same price as 5w30 at your work? 5w30 is almost double over here. Moes8 October 28th, 2007, 06:53 PM 5w20 is the same price as 5w30 at your work? 5w30 is almost double over here. why is that? MYTURN October 28th, 2007, 08:50 PM for all out racing the most horsepower would be so low that at the end of the quarter mile your pressure would go to zero than u shut it down.lol that could be 1.5-2.5 quarts.it would be worth 20plus horsepower of windage but may cause you to get the dumbass award of the year too.:p Markviiiedrea October 29th, 2007, 05:12 PM I add 6.5 because my lincoln thinks its a Harley Davidson. It likes to mark it territory! turborich October 30th, 2007, 02:50 AM I use my dipstick like the owners manual says to, To reach the full mark I use 6 3/4 quarts. Goddard-MarkVIII October 30th, 2007, 01:30 PM Well I figured different types of oil amounts would affect pressure. Not sure if this would change speed or horse power. Markviiiedrea October 30th, 2007, 04:24 PM as far as 1/4 mile times you would have better luck taking the side mirrors off. Droplynx October 30th, 2007, 05:27 PM Without going too far off topic, what do you guys think of 20w50 synthetic blend? Used it in my old 4banger and I swear it saved that engine from destruction...Just curious what you guys think though... 98LSC32V October 30th, 2007, 09:08 PM I would not use anything heavier than Mobil 1 0w-40 in the 4.6 DOHC. Markviiiedrea October 30th, 2007, 09:47 PM Without going too far off topic, what do you guys think of 20w50 synthetic blend? Used it in my old 4banger and I swear it saved that engine from destruction...Just curious what you guys think though... That heavier weight oil would make a good cushion for a tired motor but then again the motor has to work hard to push through it especially when cold. | |||||
