Hello, first time poster here, though id ask a few questions. Im gonna buy a new car the beginning of next year and am really considering a LS. I just started lookin and a LS really stands out to me. I dont wanna spend more than $9K, and was wondering if you can get a really nice one for that? Also are they good reliable cars, because this car will need to last quite awhile. Basically what are the reason why I should look into one and what are some bad things that I need to look out for? Thanks Derek.

I got my 2001 V6 with 36,000 miles for $4,000. Things you need to look out for: Maybe it was just mine, but the whole cooling system crapped out and I had to replace the right side electrical....which came out to about $2,000. Things do go wrong with this car, but things go wrong with every car....and truthfully through all of the problems I have had, I could never see myself driving anything else. IF you have anymore questions for me feel free to ask.

Yup. That's pretty much what it boils down to. I assume if I had paid above 10K I wouldn't have had so many problems.

Yes but its hard. It may have high mileage but great ext or the other way around but it could be done.

you have to be willing to swallow high highway mileage in exchange for a clean interior. At least thats what i did. No regrets so far.

Well after reading a lot more on this forum it sounds like these cars have a lot of stupid little expensive things go wrong on them. Window motors, coils, airbag etc. I would really like to get one though, my grandpa has a couple at his car lot he works at, gonna go test drive some this weekend.

UPDATE: Well I was reading a little more, came across http://www.carsurvey.org/model_Lincoln_LS.html and now I really dont know what to thing. It seems like every review was negative and eveyone had the same problem which costs a fortune. My question is when these things break are they cheap and easy to fix yourself? Im no mechanic my any means but in the 9 years that iv had 2 difference cars Iv never had to pay someone to fix a problem, ive always done it myself.

if your handy with a wrench then it won't be AS expensive as it would be because you take out the labor costs but some parts can be expensive and some parts are really difficult to get to. try to get a low mileage one, just my 2 cents

i got my 02 LSE with 36k for 3,550 + a few grand into fixing but thats if you want to bother with that crap and be a cheapass

Yes, the repairs are more expensive than a lower end car. But you get what you pay for. If you want cheaper repairs, buy a Taurus.

As for negative reviews, of course there are going to be more negative than positive. People rarely take the time to post a review when nothing is going wrong. "Out of sight - out of mind" comes into play here. As soon as something goes wrong, they want to jump online and post complaints. Just part of human nature.

i got my 00'lsv8 w/ 68k for $9k+tt&l. came out to about $9800. $3k down, payments are about $180/mo. i usually pay $220 though... AND, i love my car... AND, it turns heads everywhere i go...

Thats what I was thinkin as well. I was reading comments on my current car, 96 grand am, and a lot of people had bad things to say as well. Its reaching almost 125K and the only things Ive had to replace was a window motor and a heater core, which together was less than $100.

Bought mine for 8K with an engine light on. Was just an engine misfireThanks to these forums, I knew before hand the issues to deal with. Cost about $200 to replace all the coils and spark plugs and valve cover gaskets. Runs like a dream.

Of course I flew a few states away to buy it... wanted one without a damn sunroof! You'd think it was a special option to NOT have one. ;)

You can buy mine for 8500 if you want. a 00 ls8 with 91k

The going price in Georgia seems to be around 6-7 grand. But, if you have dealer auction access you can steal them for 4-5k with a 100-130k miles on them. But, one with less then 90k miles on them will be 6-7. The price has dropped substantially in the past few months. I don't know why maybe with the coil problem the ls is known for made the price go down but, there really isn't a true fact of why it went down. But, just check every car out that you want to buy. Pretty much all dealerships give free carfax's. Also I work at a car dealership they can go down on the price just don't take to big of a hit down. Start at a 1000 dollars down and then see if you can't talk them down 2000 dollars. But, it is very possible to get a Lincoln LS for under 9k or right at it that will be worth every dollar. I recommend getting an 03' though I wish I did but, hey you can't have everything you want.
