Not that it's against the law or anything, but anyone who refuses to respect the flag in the manner described by the US Code (http://www.stpeteblue.com/Flagcode.htm) should not be eligible for public office.

I'm going to disagree. I believe a person should have a constitutional right to burn the flag and/or not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance if he/she so chooses. The U.S. Flag Code cannot be forced upon private citizens. How many citizens follow the dictates of Section 174 entitled "Time and occasions for display"? Not many.

To the contrary, I want people like Obama to have a right to express his beliefs via not putting his hand over his heart and refusing to wear a flag pin because it lets me know that I shouldn't vote for him--should the opportunity arise. If a candidate for political office can't set aside his/her feelings for a moment to show some patriotism and reverence for the principles the flag stands for then he/she doesn't deserve my vote.

While I respect your right to disagree, there are two clear flaws in your reasoning. First, I never said he didn't have a constitutional right to not place his hand over his heart. I said he should be disqualified from leadership in this country.

Second, Obama is most certainly NOT a private citizen. He is a publicly elected official. As such, he should abide by customs and norms, especially those steeped in American tradition and specified by the US Code. If he doesn't respect the law, how can he expect the American people to respect him?

Liberals...

Thats one of the main reasons Obama will never make it.
People are uninformed and vote by what they think..... not by what the facts are.
Obama gets confused with Keith Ellison.

Obama is a frikking christian

Obama is absolutely NOT a Christian. No Christian would seek to remove so many rights from Americans. No Christian would attend a church where racist anti-white statements were uttered by the minister. He's a phony Christian.

I would think that only God could truly judge that, oh well.

I didn't know you believed in God.

Nevertheless, you don't know your Bible. The Bible clearly defines what Christian behavior is. As a Bible-believing Christian, I am capable of judging a political candidate and making any comment I see fit. It also says numerous times that Christians are to judge. (http://www.biblebelievers.com/jmelton/Judging.html)

Isaiah 8:20 says, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

First off how can you know what any man believes ?

I have news for you fossten CHRISTIANS have done alot of bad things and still do.

Just go back in History CHRISTIANS have killed in the name of god just like the muslims.

Obama claims hes a Christian I dont doubt it but he still dosen't stand a chance.

I judge a man by his actions, not his professed beliefs. Obama sanctions the murder of unborn babies. He's voted that way. That's enough for me.

Just go back in History CHRISTIANS have killed in the name of god just like the muslims.

That's what Rosie O'Donnell said. And she was ridiculed for it. Of course, you have ZERO evidence of this. I challenge you additionally to prove the "just like muslims" claim as well as the "killing in the name of God" claim.

Furthermore, I don't see what you're trying to prove here. Staying on topic, are you arguing that as a "Christian" Obama is part of an evil religion? Or are you equivocating Christianity with Islam? Either position is ridiculous.

I just saying he claims he is Christian just like you do.

But actions speak louder then words.

I'm sure if we got into a agrument of how Christianity and Islam are one in the same you would show your Christian side and start calling me names. ;)

I'm sure I wouldn't need to resort to that. Anyone who thinks Islam and Christianity are the same are simply ignorant of the historical facts. Trying to bait me into calling you names is sophomoric. It's clear that you have a low opinion of Christians.

But you admitted that yourself by claiming Christians have killed people just like muslims. You wouldn't have said it that way if you didn't see the two religions as different.

I didn’t mean to insinuate that you believe Obama doesn’t have a constitutional right to not show reverence for the flag. I was simply citing the U.S. Constitution as a reason why I support a person’s right to not salute the flag if he should so choose. This issue was settled in the 1940s when the Supreme Court ruled in West Virginia State Board v. Barnette (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_State_Board_of_Education_v._Barnette ), 319 U.S. 624 (1943) that Jehovah’s Witnesses attending public schools do not have to salute the flag. The court held that government cannot compel people to have a particular belief including saluting the U.S. flag in order to compel a showing of reverence. Under the first amended the right of free speech encompasses the right to not salute a flag regardless of established laws and customs. If someone has a constitutional right to do something then free exercise of such right cannot be subject to punishment. Accordingly, banning Obama from public office because he refuses to show reverence for the U.S. flag would fly in the face of the Constitution. Some may not like it, but this is one of the principles the founding fathers envision for our nation.

Ya, a pretend one. Or like Fossten said, a "phony Christian".:p

The guy freely chose to change his name to one with a Muslim heritage, from Barry to Obama, so you explain that to me.

His loyalties lie with the Muslim faith.

Which is fine.

He should go live in sand-land :D and stop dissing America as depicted in the picture above.

One of the meanings of the name Barry is: Spear chucker (I mean) thrower.
It is Christian with French origins. Or Irish and Gaelic. Whoever you want to believe.

Meaning of the name Barack... of Arabic Origin and comes from the Koran: Blessed.

From Debbie Schlussel (http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2006/12/barack_hussein.html)...

"And while Obama may not identify as a Muslim, that's not how the Arab and Muslim Streets see it. In Arab culture and under Islamic law, if your father is a Muslim, so are you. And once a Muslim, always a Muslim. You cannot go back. In Islamic eyes, Obama is certainly a Muslim. He may think he's a Christian, but they do not."

Heh. Obama is a frikking Christian like Rudy Giuliani is a frikking Conservative.

Obama's stance on abortion is enough to disqualify him as a Christian in my viewpoint.

I know you are correct about your assessment of the current law. But my point is that he SHOULD be disqualified for this, if not by the law, certainly by the voters. And maybe it should be a requirement that a US candidate for public office show respect to the flag. Otherwise, any person who has publicly burned a flag can run for office. Heck, putting that requirement in the law would be less arbitrary than the one requiring a minimum age of 35.
