I've searched, and read..but still uncertain, hence this thread.

2002 V8 LSE. 88k miles. Had car since new. Transmission fluid flushed by dealer at approx 75k miles. Valve cover gasket and plugs replaced around 64k. No current oil leaks, and in general, car runs great.

Approx 4 weeks ago, while accelerating briskly at about 40mph, engine stumbles briefly. Goes from 4500+, to a quick rpm drop to about 2k, then right back to normal acceleration. No CEL lights, no warning lights at all.

3 days later, same thing. A week later, when pulling off from a light, same thing.

This morning when attempting to make it through a yellow from about 40mph, I floor it..immediate hesitation, jerk, stumble, then "Check Transmission" appeared on the display. Car then accelerated as normal. D5 still remained on the gear selection display. No "E" error code there. Within about 30 seconds, the "Check Transmission" disappeared, and car appeared to drive normally. Hit the "status" button to see if any errors were in place, and there were none. Turned car off in garage, restarted, and no codes. Haven't had a chance to drive it out of garage yet.

With the above symptoms in mind, am I looking at a failing COP, or a transmission valvebody/solenoid issue, or a combination?

Is this something I need to take in NOW as a preventative measure, or do I wait on this.

Since the car said "Check Transmission" I would go with transmission over coils (but thats an ill-educated guess). Take it in and pay to have them look it over.

Thanks, and that was my thought this morning(transmission issue), but the sudden RPM reduction HAS to be a pending COP failure. Well, it doesn't HAVE to be..but it surely must be engine related vs transmission. And I truly don't have a major problem having it checked out properly, but my experiences with taking a car in to the dealer when there are NO codes present, and when the symptoms are sporadic, usually end up in a $100 bill for a receipt that says "could not duplicate customer complaint".

I mainly was wondering if a failing COP can cause the dirvetrain to stumble hard enough to trigger a temporary "false" transmission check light. And wondering in general if anyone has experienced this exact symptoms before.

i used to have that happen all the time, never did it say check transmission or display any error codes. finally replaced some coils and now its gone away. might as well have the dealer handle this

yea i just got my car a week ago same thing bro... but it was defently my tranny, had a rebuild that cost me 1260 bucks but hopefully in ur situation even thou it sounds like my case hopefully is not ur tranny cuz if it is ur looking a little bit more over a "G"....
