Hey guys, I know there are Mazda forums out there, but this is just a general car question. My girlfriends car is a 95 Mazda 626 with an engine in it from an unknown Mazda and unknown year. How might one go about getting the information? I ask because she has a pretty severe problem and no mechanic around here has been able to diagnose; I feel that this is because they don't have the necessary information on the engine.

Somewhere on the block should be the VIN number of the vehicle it came out of, if you put it into carfax even it should tell you what the car was.

I would try the vin and I would also go to a machine shop. I worked at a machine shop in my younger years and my boss could tell me exactly what motor every head came off of.

unless they've stolen the motor and defaced the little plate with the vin on it...
