mark0101 September 23rd, 2007, 08:21 PM Ok, I haven't been driving my 97 Mark VIII (my mom has been driving this car)because I got my hands on a 93 Mark VIII. So today, I felt the need to drive my 97 Mark VIII to college. It started a little rough but it did start. So When I got to college, did some studying, I went to go eat. It started rough again. I ate, came back to my car but it wasn't starting. I hear it clicking (starter), my battery is fine because usually when the battery is bad, all the lights go out. It has 97,000 miles. I am guessing its the spark plugs:confused: What do you guys think?
Hammerdinz September 23rd, 2007, 08:58 PM My guess would be the fuel pump. Im 85 percent sure.

It does have 1/4 of a gas tank and it is on a unleveled surface. So maybe. How much is it to replace it? I know geno sells them but which one should i get, or should I stay factory?
GMAN September 23rd, 2007, 09:23 PM The fuel pump is the last result. There are other options it could be like a bad IAC, and a bad TPS. Also, your fuel filter could be clogged as well.
Calabrio September 23rd, 2007, 09:54 PM Have you tried jumping it? It could just be a bad battery, unable to generate enough cranking amps.
unity September 23rd, 2007, 11:25 PM You say you hear it clicking, does it turn over?
If it turns over, my first thought is furl pressure regulator.
Moes8 September 24th, 2007, 03:35 AM and if its clicking but not actually turning over ,it could be ,low battery, bad connection,or a bad starter
JoeyLincolnMK8 September 24th, 2007, 06:10 AM I notice that you have an SCT chip? when my SCT chip took a crap, my mark would not start. it would hear it crank and sometimes click, but would never turn over. remove the chip and see if it starts. remember dont try to connect a code scanner, cause it will not work! Also if its not the chip, just swap the battery from your 93 and see if she starts up!

Well I don't have a chip, its the handheld thing which changes your program and you can see the DTC codes.
I talked to my friend, from what he said, It is the battery or the starter sillonoid. I am going to go back, and try to jump start the car today.
mark0101 September 25th, 2007, 05:44 PM Alright, so I jump started the car and it actually worked. I hope all I have to do is change the battery. Because after I brought the car back home, it didn't start again the next day.
On the side note....
Man you guys would not believe how badly the car is affected by a bad driver. So After it started, my friend drove the 93 and I drove the 97. We got a stop light. It turned green, and I got the jump by 1 car lenght and kept it till 60 MPH. Next stop light he was right beside my door but were even till 60 MPH.
My 93 is alot faster then my 97, and I couldn't believe that I actually beat the 93.
Brozly September 26th, 2007, 09:51 AM Might want to check the alternator...
mespock September 26th, 2007, 10:38 AM Always the first thing to check it the battery connection... is it tight! Loose could still be just enough to light things up but not enough to start the car.
96mark8 September 26th, 2007, 02:33 PM mine does that when its hot i have to spray starter fuild ( i think that is what i spary) into the intake for it to start
Jafeb September 26th, 2007, 05:33 PM The same thing same happen to me so I changed my starter solenoid & it turned right up
Calabrio September 26th, 2007, 05:39 PM Batteries do just get old and require replacing... Make sure the battery isn't 5 years old first.
