You need a certain amount of back pressure for the engine to work efficiently, running straight pipes can also give you valve problems like valve warpage.

Law enforcement may look dimly on the noise.

Try some dumps.

Cats should provide plenty of back pressure. I've ran without mufflers on lots of cars with no problems. My MarkVII lost its mufflers right after I bought it with 97k, its got 220k now, never a problem.

Its not gunna get that loud like a muscle car chugging kinda loud if thats what you want, ther ain't enough power.

Not enough stroke and cubes.

Correct..... along with 32V and DOC's, an LS will never sound like a small block Chevy.

If that's what your looking for, you bought the wrong car.

 I'm no expert, but I've never heard of a muffler improving an engine's efficiency over straight pipes.

Yes and it's not a pushrod either. I have an '88 Caprice that has flowmasters. It sounds balls out but it's only 145 HP.

Anyone think it would be louder if there was a carb kit like some of those tuners started using? Just a thought, I know it will never be possible to fit anything like it.

Did you take off the resonators?

There have been discussions about back pressure or the lack of on the LS.

Do a search on back pressure.

Some have gone to 3” pipes and loss torque on a dyno. Gain HP loss torque or move the torque up in the RPM’s, many discussions here and other LS forms.

I believe Quick LS had issues developing his LS, read the long thread at the top of the thread page on supercharged LS V8.

If you want it loud, loose the cats, dont recommend it, but whatever you want. The loudest you will get other than straight pipes or no exhaust is probably dual with no cats and 40 series flows, or whatever other muffler you like.
