I have a ?... I"m about to get to 75,000 on my 97' Mark Viii... don't know how much tranny work has been done to it... but I've been lookin around for a shop to do a drain or a flush... I read all about doin the torque converter and the 1-2 accumulator upgrade and all that... but my ?? is... I found a shop that specializes in transmissions... that said they'd do it for about 120 plus cost of the part... that's drain... change filter... clean, install and refill... does this sound fishy?.... I've called around and everyone else is charging 180 just for the tranny clean and filter... but they're mainly chain shops... which I usually don't like... but a guy at another shop suggested them... so I would think that it wouldn't be that bad... but the price just sounds too good to be true!!... any insight? thanks!!

Just make sure they use Mercon V as it is more expensive. It goes for about $5.00 / QT and you'll need about 14 Qts. The filter & Gasket are about $15.00 and the VB gasket is $15.00 with the accumulators coming in at about $10.00 each. I would hand them a detailed list of what you want and go from there rather than assume he's going to use the correct stuff. Also, the trans pan gaskets are in two grades also (better one is rubber reuseable, cheap on is paper gasket). If you plan on keeping the car now would be the time to put a drain in the pan, or replace it with an aftermarket or deeper sump (don't forget the need for the longer filter neck if using this option). Hope this helps.
