97 Mark 8 Rear Pads

I recently purchased the Chilton Manual for my LSC. I replaced the front brake pads and that was easy. However I do not quite understand what to do about disconnecting the brake line and emergency brake to replace the rear pads. The Chilton manual is vague here as it also covers TownCar brakes. I am afraid to mess with a large coiled spring attached to the rear caliper as well as messing with the brake line. I would appreciate any insight you might have.
Thanks

Well, there's your first problem... sorry to hear about that.

Would have to agree... should have purchase the actual ford manual.

Why do you have to disconnect the parking brake? All you need to do is twist in the caliper and the brakes should slide in.

my ford manual shows taking the ebrake cable off too... never needed to do that though just get the special tool for rear calipers from AutoZone or anywhere else and then replace the pads....

I do have a question though how do you adjust the parking brake on these cars?

Harbor freight has a great tool for the money. It had several sized "bits" for different model calipers; http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40732

^ Autozone will rent a kit very similar to that, you essentially buy it, then you can bring it back and get your money back.
