Ok... I searched the threads, but could not find anything. Has anyone taken apart the headlight assembly (gen 2), or can it be done??? What kind of problems did you run into??? How did you seal it back up???
I want to black out part of the inside of my lights.
Thanks

WHAT A NOVEL IDEA!!! Then you can run around in the dark playing blind mans bluff with all the generation one Mark VIII's Until you drive one of the early marks with headlight that have lost their reflective surfaces I very highly recommend that you search for another and different idea.

Yeah, I guess thats kinda cool. Different anyway. I suspect that if you search for info on what to do to repair the reflectors on a generation one car you will see where someone heated their unit in an oven til the glue got soft and they were able to pull the lens off. Also, there are some horror stories in there where a few of the guys melted the whole thing. I dont remember where it is or how long ago or I would give you a reference.

The oven trick works fine on Gen I's.
Someone on LOD2 posted instructions for setting the oven to 400 degrees. That's way too hot, and people who took that advice ended up melting their assemblies.
Around 200 should be adequate to loosen the glue without annihilating your assembly. You'll need to leave it in there a good 10 minutes though.
Be sure to check on it every few minutes; just because you set the oven to 200 degrees doesn't mean it'll actually be 200 degrees.
