JattGary June 6th, 2007, 10:58 PM Do you guys get pulled over for no reason just because you drive a LSE?
Because for the past 4 times I have been pulled over was for no reason

Why would a LSE cause someone to get pulled over more versus a regular LS? Anyway, perhaps i can help you out a bit. When you say "no reason" what does that mean? That you just didnt get a citation or the officer didnt give a reason? What was your dialogue with the officer? Did he get your license and info? Give some more details because as nice as a LS is i dont see it being target by a LEO just because its a LSE.
JattGary June 6th, 2007, 11:09 PM man he was givin me :q:q:q:q for not wearing a seat belt when i clearly had it on and then tried to get me for front tints even when i had my windows down and i told him it wasn't tinted then he ended up giving me a ticket for no front plate. ($20 fine just tells you he's nothing but hating young cop).
The Reaper June 6th, 2007, 11:21 PM So there WERE reasons. All perfectly legit.
Fla02LS June 6th, 2007, 11:22 PM man he was givin me :q:q:q:q for not wearing a seat belt when i clearly had it on and then tried to get me for front tints even when i had my windows down and i told him it wasn't tinted then he ended up giving me a ticket for no front plate. Holy cow...thats your reasons??? Well lets break this down some.....First off be honest with yourself, where you actually wearing your seatbelt or did you just click it while being pulled over and do you have any tint on your windows? Now, in your state its the law to wear your seatbelt and that is PC for a traffic stop, in Florida however it isnt, so if in his opinion it didnt look like you had it on he has every right to stop you. Next, if by chance you do have tinted windows the 'ol roll down the window trick doesnt grant you immunity, he does have the right to ask you to roll them up if he suspect illegal tint and if i am correct you arent allowed ANY tint on the front. Third, in Illinois its the law to have front tags correct? And you obviously didnt, correct? If all this is true then you got away easy with only 1 of 3 possible citations. Thats hardly targeting you because of your LSE.
PS - Just checked out your pictures.....YOU HAVE TINT!!!!!
PSS - Just checked out your pictures.....YOU HAVE NO FRONT PLATE!!!!!
JattGary June 6th, 2007, 11:54 PM i was wearing my seat belt and i had my windows down from the time i left my house i didnt do it cause i saw a damn cop. lastly i did roll it up and its only 35% so its basically see through glass and the window looks stock and he didnt see the tint. Even if i didnt have my seat belt on he was coming in incoming traffic (which is separated by a median that looks kind of like this)
http://larryfeltonjohnson.typepad.com/photos/atlantic_station/atlantic_station_017.jpg
he could have never saw my belt from that distance. What he told me was he didnt think i had my belt on becuase i had my seat leaned all the way back. The funny part was he was askin me to answer em man to man if i was wearing my belt. I always wear my belt the damn bell is too annoying to listen to if you dont wear it.

Fla02LS June 7th, 2007, 12:14 AM Well i'm not trying to be a dick here but it all seems common sense. Like i said, in your state it is PC for a traffic stop if it "appears" that the belt is not on, seeing that your window was open and therefore a clear view inside i'm sure to him it didnt look like it, the leaned back seat probably didnt help.
As far as your comment on 35% and "see thru glass", if your interior is black that makes any tint even stock windows look darker, they come with a factory tint and anything added to that is going to give an appereance far from "see thru". Now...i think you caught yourself in a lie. You said originally that the cop was hassling you about tint and you told him you dont have any tint...YOU DO HAVE TINT. So i guess your saying you lied to him? Anyways as i said before all the issues you brought up you were totally in violation of except for the belt that you said you were wearing.
I think alot of people need to realize that ALOT of times a petty traffic stop over a seatbelt or a missing front tag can lead to something much much more and thats why they do what they do. Lets say he stops you for the missing front plate....runs your license and you have a warrant or suspended license, or you have drugs or a weapon in the car or your intoxicated. The little things lead to bigger things way more often than you'd imagine. Whether you believe it or not the situation you decribed you were definately not being harrased but being checked out by a thorough cop.
One more final thing, i looked back and this was your second post here after you joined:

JattGary June 7th, 2007, 12:26 AM Fla02LS how slow can you be i corrected my line when i said LSE i meant LS as everyone on this form wasn't tryin to say my cars better then yours you need to quit comin at me sayin my lse isnt any better then ur car.

Hold on now...thats not the intent i had. I keep saying LSE because thats what you have. I understand you meant LS's in general, but the fact is you have a LSE and not a LS. I was never comparing the status of anyones car simply calling yours what it is. To be honest i like the styling of the LSE especially the '02 better than my '05. I give you props on your car, it looks good. If it makes you happy i changed the LSE part to just LS.

ToddG June 7th, 2007, 12:57 PM In my state, its a violation to drive while blabbing on a handheld phone. But I see this going on all the time! I wanna know why the cops don't pull people over and fine them?
As for JattGary, get used to being a victim, bro. The cops need Probable Cause (PC) to pull you over, and evidently you provide it somehow. Must be your haircut. :D

glanga June 7th, 2007, 01:18 PM It's illegal in Jersey for anyone to be on a cell phone while driving but I see police on Cell Phones ALL THE TIME.I dont think they should be allowed to break the law either unless its an emergency situation. After the Governor crashed they were off for a while now I see them on phones again all the time.
jrockcentral1 June 7th, 2007, 02:05 PM If they are on the phone their attention is diverted away from me :) lol, I agree it's shady.
Calabrio June 7th, 2007, 02:46 PM The cops aren't pulling luxury cars over at a higher rate than other cars. To the contrary. You need to drive like a real ass-hat in order to get pulled over in a Lincoln.
You'd be amazed at what you can get away with in a shiny Lincoln, contrasted to a broken in Mustang.
Jim Henderson June 7th, 2007, 04:42 PM I have been driving for over 30 years and I am not what I would call a grandpa type driver. I like full throttle acceleration and routinely go 5 over and sometimes a lot more and a twisty road calls to me. BUT, what I don't do is standout. I try not to do anything that draws attention to me.
Something you were doing or the way your car or you looked drew his attention to you. My guess is maybe he was having a slow day and you not having front plates drew a little attention. A bit of tint that is beyond the legal limit which is not much will also get attention. Most states make tint something darker than 20% illegal and they can legitimately bust you.
Sounds like you are a young fellow, good for you, but also draws a little attention. Maybe something about the way you were driving also drew some attention. All the little pieces start to add up and if you get enough attention, you get pulled over at least for curiosity.
BTW, there is a US wide program right now where they are looking for no seatbelts. "Clicket or ticket". There is some complaining going on that they are getting too intrusive on this program, but that's life when the do gooders want to protect us from ourselves. Pkus most seatbelt fines are pretty good revenue for the city. However I heartly endorse seat belts, saved my life at least a couple times I think. So belts is not an issue for me, except the time my young son stood up in the front seat to look at a police car, duh, $250 fine.
Fact of life is young fellows in flashy cars are usually pulled over more often than old farts in an Oldsmobile. You will outgrow this.
The officer almost certainly had nothing against you. He has way better things to do than stop a young fellow for minor stuff. And he can make more money with big Ticket items. The combination of your lack of plates, and dark tint and you being young in a cool car and maybe the way you were driving drew his attention to you. Learn how not to draw attention.
I find that driving smoothly and with the general flow even if you are going fast is relatively safe from ticketing. The key is to drive with the flow and safely. He is looking for sudden passing of cars, frequent lane changes, unsafe behavior in general etc. I always like to have rabbit, that is a person who is going faster than me or drawing more attention than me. I have driven on long trips at well over the limit as long as the rest of traffic was doing it or I had a rabbit. For example I have driven up interstate 5 in Calif at well over 80mph for hours at a time, because almost everyone is. They stop the guys going 90 or dodging in and out of lanes. Actually now that I think of it, I do this every day on my commute since all the traffic around me is going 80+. I have even done this next to motor cops since they and everyone else were doing it. To not do it could actually cause an accident. He was looking for the lane changers, tail gaters and guys going 95.
Also when you are stopped, a lot of what happens next is based upon your attitude. If your are factual, respectful and reasonably polite, you probably would get a warning. If you are rude of come off with a po'd attitude, you will probaly get to spend some money. And like one officer told me, if a rude person keeps on talking, the officer can keep on writing. Officers go thru hundreds of stops and they can tell BS when they smell it so no BS from you is the smart thing.
Good Luck, over time you will learn how to blend in, let some other younger fellow get the attention,

nickandersonLS01 June 7th, 2007, 06:16 PM I have yet to be pulled over in the Lincoln(I've been pulled over countless amounts of times in my other cars, searched, harrassed, etc.). When I work the late shift I usually get off work at 11 and go straight to my g/f's house till like 2-3, like 9/10 times a cop is on the street that my house is off of, I've been followed home up to the point where the cop actually stopped in the intersection and stared me down, still never got pulled over.
You obviously got pulled over for a reason, dump the front tints, and put the front license plate back on, or don't complain about being pulled over :D
PS: I see alot of LS owners from the Chicago area, lets get a meet going sometime, me and some of my buddies cruise to streets of woodfield and sometimes corners(Lisle) frequently.
JattGary June 7th, 2007, 06:37 PM man not in the mood to drilling holes i might just find another way to put it on maybe wire ties or something like that put it under the bumper. The meet thing yeah I'm down just make some plans.
Fla02LS June 7th, 2007, 06:54 PM I was thinking about something regarding this guy and it really pertains to alot of people on here. Accidents happen all the time and you never expect it obviously. If by any unfortunate chance any of you that have illegal tint on your car get into an accident that "could" end up hitting you in the wallet way more than you might expect. You can be givin a citation for the tint which isnt all that big a deal, under $100, but the person that you hit can come after you in civil court and use the fact that you had illegal tint as a reason to sue you for alot of money depending on the severity of the accident and injuries. You'd never think that your window tint could cause such a big problem but its always a possibility. Are the odds extremely small, sure, but its literally something that could ruin you and your families livelyhood. Just something to ponder.
glanga June 7th, 2007, 07:02 PM I know a lot of people who have tint on their front windows (which any tint in jersey on front 2 windows is illegal) and complain all the time about being cited for it. I'd love to hear them complain in front of the family of the fallen officer who was killed because some punk gang banger shot him through the window for a routine stop since he couldn't see in. Yeah tint looks good but your asking for trouble since your making that officer feel unsafe since he doesn't know what to expect behind that window. If he'll be shot just for pulling you over to let you know your tag light is out.
Front plates are stupid. PA makes due fine with out them as do many other states.
Seatbelts should be up to the driver. Some states don't require helmets for motorcycles which is just as bad if not worse than not wear a seatbelt.
There is always the factor of a young kid, nice car...police having some sort of animosity towards them or them owning a nice car like at a young age is suspect in some way. Which is illegal since it's profiling.
Fla02LS June 7th, 2007, 07:26 PM I know i have said before that my local sheriffs are cracking down on aggressive driving. There was a news story today where a reporter went riding with a deputy in an unmarked mustang. It was crazy to see the stuff going on right in front of his eyes. He stated that EVERYONE around him right then could have been pulled over and given a ticket. But just like mentioned above he was looking for the "WOW" people as he said, those who's driving stood out against all the rest. They are using all unmarked cars to catch people, its called 4 on I-4. In just one day there was 2,750 tickets written, thats INSANE. One of the cars being used is bright red SRT8 dodge charger, very stealthy.

dtx01 June 7th, 2007, 08:31 PM you probably got pulled over b/c the dark tints and the wheels make the car stand out.
aftermarket rims scream, "look at me, i stand out, i'm different" plus i would say a majority of people with aftermarket wheels are from 17-25 which tend to do more illegal things then the older crowd. those wheels grab peoples attention, and some of those people will be cops looking to write a ticket.
Midas78 June 7th, 2007, 11:08 PM I haven't been pulled over since putting my rims on, but I have been nervous about it. For the tint, I usually roll down the windows when I notice a police car and I want the police man to see the white boy with the collared shirt driving. So far no issues.
It seems like you just need to put the license plate on the front of the car (wire it to the lower grill - somebody here has done it before and it doesn't look that bad.)
Also when getting pulled over, pull over some where safe, have your paperwork ready, and be polite, you might just get a warning next time.
DeviLSh June 8th, 2007, 12:30 PM couldnt agree more with midas ont he whole politeness thing. I have gotten out of 3 tickets, 2 of which the cop said, "keep your good manners" i think it helps a little
however each caop has awlasy told me, "nice car" :D
