Has anyone had any dealings with this pump? Does i regularly go out? Is it hard to remove?

Not hard to remove at all. Did yours go out?

I'd send you the one off my 98, but I can't, for two reasons:

1. The car is far away
2. Looks like a Maxx drawing, and I don't want to take business away from him. :D

You can just turn it off with a chip, no need to remove. If you remove it without a chip you will get a CEL anyway.

Good point. Hadn't thought about that, 98.

I completely removed all traces of EGR crap off of my 98. The pump is still there though. Why? uhhh... dunno.

Frogman, I don't think max will mind. I currently have the CEL light.

98, how much does the chip cost to eliminate this?

Is my pump broken, is this the reason I have this problem?

A basic chip cost around $300 but it will do a lot more than just turn off your air pump. Contact Torrie at fastpartsnetwork.com or Lonnie at blueovalchips.com, they will hook you up. Make sure to tell them exactly what you want.

If I don't want a chip, what is it about this pump that malfunctions? Frogman, would you sell me yours?

To... Inject air into the EGR system, I would think?

Its the secondary thermactor pump which injects air into the exhaust for the first 30 seconds of operation. You will hear it kick on briefly after coming to a stop at normal operating temperature.

so that's why when i start up for the first time or for a long time i smell a funny smell from the exhaust?

Frogman...you are correct I did send that drawing to Greg. And I do not mind if you can save him some bucks on that pump. It has a list of $244 and cost LVC $144 but if a used one that works can do the job go for it, I am all for recycling the old parts to save!!.

Max, is this the pump. This one I found is from a 96. Are they the same? Also, what is it that makes them malfunction?

96 and up is OBD II, so you should be good to go with that pump.

Thats the one....the engineering number on that crosses to the real part number. I could not say why it malfunctions.

What is the best way to access this pump? Do I have to take the bumper off?
