mark0101 June 1st, 2007, 11:49 AM I am planing to get gears in a month or so. still havn't decided which one I am going to get. Its either going to be 3.73s or 4.10s. Well, where should I buy these gears? and where do I go to install them? I know that my speedometer is going to change, where do I go to get that fixed?
BTW is it better to go for gears or UD pulleys? What are the pros and cons for the UD pulleys/
Thanks
98LSC32V June 1st, 2007, 01:11 PM Gears will make a huge difference, get the 4.10's. The best place is americanmuscle.com to get them for around $129.99 with free shipping. The UD pulleys will give you 10hp all through the rpm range but can be bad for the engine oil pump and for the alternator.
mark0101 June 2nd, 2007, 05:30 PM Which mustang year will fit our marks? I don't see Mark VIII gears over there. Plus Can gears be installed by your self? How hard is it to install them?
kustomizingkid June 2nd, 2007, 05:37 PM If you are installing gears get a tlock or else you are wasting your time. Besides you might as well do it all at once anyways.
MediumD June 2nd, 2007, 07:11 PM Which mustang year will fit our marks? I don't see Mark VIII gears over there. Plus Can gears be installed by your self? How hard is it to install them?
Any Ford 8.8" gears will work. This pretty much means any V8 Mustang - the V6s had 7.5" differentials and won't work..
mark0101 June 2nd, 2007, 09:26 PM I would like to have 4.10s But I am going to go for the 3.73 because I travel 60 miles everyday on the Highway at 75-80 MPH.
Anyways They have the speed cal which would fix it, now all I need to do is where I should get them installed from. Reinhart is about 2 miles away from me, maybe I will go over their. BTW would an SCT fix the speedometer?
98LSC32V June 2nd, 2007, 10:49 PM With the gen 2 you don't need any speedo fixes after a gear change.
Roadboss June 2nd, 2007, 11:45 PM The SCT done by Dennis will definitely be a big improvement to go with those gears.
skenneyjr June 3rd, 2007, 12:18 AM what revs are you turning at 75 with the 4.10s, 3.73s, 3.55s, etc?
Staffamerica74 June 3rd, 2007, 01:41 AM dont forget you need 28 spline guts
mark0101 June 3rd, 2007, 12:04 PM The SCT done by Dennis will definitely be a big improvement to go with those gears.
I already have the SCT done by dennis, should I go back to him after I get the gears? Or it doesn't matter.
what are the 28 spline guts?
98LSC32V June 3rd, 2007, 12:44 PM No you shouldn't need to get a reburn for your chip after you get gears as long as your shifts have been firmed up already and you have a higher redline. You need a 28 spline trac-loc/posi.

on americanmuscle.com, they have a 31 spline trac-loc for $449. I don't have that kind of money, do you know a better website where I can buy the 28 spline trac-loc/posi?
Thanks
98LSC32V June 3rd, 2007, 04:05 PM The 31 spline trac-loc would not fit anyway because you have 28 spline axles.
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FMS%2DM%2D4204%2DF288&N=700+115&autoview=sku
I'm sure Max at Five Star Ford can get it for you a little cheaper if you ask him.
Staffamerica74 June 3rd, 2007, 04:19 PM Junk yards have tons of explorers with 28 spline 8.8 3.73 tloc rears in them... take the axles out and take the ring, pinion, and carrier. Tloc rebuild kits are about 40 dollars. This will run you about 100 dollars tops then you have to take it some where to be installed.
Read the axle tags before you take it apart though.
98LSC32V June 3rd, 2007, 05:48 PM I got a used t-loc from an 01 GT, waiting on my gears and rebuild/install kit to come in...
BlntdEyez June 5th, 2007, 09:46 PM 4.30's all the way!!!!
98LSC32V June 6th, 2007, 12:40 PM 4.30's all the way!!!!
Hell yea, I had 4.30's in my 95 LSC, it honestly felt like I gained 50 horsepower haha...
mark0101 June 6th, 2007, 03:58 PM Hell yea, I had 4.30's in my 95 LSC, it honestly felt like I gained 50 horsepower haha...
that would be good way to go if I didn't have to drive on the highway.
98LSC32V June 6th, 2007, 04:01 PM I drove on the highway all the time... 3000rpm at 80mph, no big deal...
Frogman June 6th, 2007, 04:12 PM Hmmm.. 3000rpm at 80 with 4:30's?
I know of a guy with 4.10's who's churning a little under 3100 at 80MPH.
Your cars' tire diameter must be taller then stock then... Though, his are 17x9 inch cobra wheels wrapped in 245/40/17 Rubber.
02LSE96LSC91SE84TC June 6th, 2007, 09:23 PM Yeah I would have guessed higher too. I'm thinking 3.90s.
Markasaurus VIII June 6th, 2007, 09:41 PM so what would be the best gears to beat most people ina straight line, and drive almost everyday?
Frogman June 6th, 2007, 09:44 PM Just get 3.73's if you do a lot of highway driving. If you don't get 4.10's.
Markasaurus VIII June 6th, 2007, 09:48 PM k, so 4.10's are fast enough, but good for city driving?
93' Blue on blue June 6th, 2007, 11:48 PM City driving is where low gears (i.e. numerically high) are in their element. Perfect for stop/start low speed driving when pulling off quickly is desirable. Not so good for highway. This is why you would make a compromise. Frogmans 3.73 suggestion sounds about the right balance for a mix of city and highway driving.
Markasaurus VIII June 6th, 2007, 11:58 PM let me rephrase that, whats gears are best for street racing in the city? in a car that i drive everyday.
93' Blue on blue June 7th, 2007, 12:07 AM Im no mark viii performance expert but for what you want i'd say the lower the better. Maybe 4.10 or even lower.
Frogman June 7th, 2007, 12:09 AM Sorry. I won't help you in your quest if you want to street race. Street racing is up there with sticking a pen in your left eye, as far as good ideas. I'm sure someone else will tell you what you need though.
Markasaurus VIII June 7th, 2007, 01:04 AM well, i dont really want to street race, i just wanna beat the junk out of kids that mess with me at lights in there little rice burners, :)
Frogman June 7th, 2007, 01:14 AM You know...? I think they still call that "street racing". I'm sure our fellow LvC members who are cops can pitch in and tell you what they call it better than I can.
MediumD June 7th, 2007, 03:11 AM So now you're the resident street racing nazi too?
Frogman June 7th, 2007, 04:15 AM First off, I've seen my share of death... that you can count on. However, after you pull the twisted and broken body of a 2 year old baby out of a car that was practically flattened by a Diesel pick-up truck racing another pick-up truck, and she dies in your arms while you're trying to be a good citizen and keep her alive until Paramedics show up, you might just have the same thoughts as I about street racing.
So if that makes me a street racing NAZI, so be it.
JoshMcMadMac June 7th, 2007, 05:49 AM I would like to have 4.10s But I am going to go for the 3.73 because I travel 60 miles everyday on the Highway at 75-80 MPH.

There is very little difference in RPM's between 3.73 and 4.10 gears, being only about 200RPM. Just go for the 4.10's.
BlntdEyez June 7th, 2007, 01:05 PM well, i dont really want to street race, i just wanna beat the junk out of kids that mess with me at lights in there little rice burners, :)
You should already be able to do that.
98LSC32V June 7th, 2007, 02:43 PM 4.56's for the street.
punisher12b June 7th, 2007, 03:07 PM hells yeah go for 4.10s
ill be honest it was a seriously noticable mod along with the jmod and shift kit u get the tune at the same time and yeah... other thing is torque converter if someone didnt mention it already
MediumD June 7th, 2007, 03:22 PM Yes
Fixed.

what a toad...i mean man...sniff...you are the MOST MATURE 32 year-old on earth, thanks for all these pearls of wisdom.
We are all eternally grateful for your 2600+ posts, complete with witticisms, pompous diatribes-gee, now I should spell-check... 'lol' (i think paris hilton invented the 'lol', but i'm certain I'll be corrected)
Frogman June 8th, 2007, 07:41 PM Awww. Are you STILL butthurt over being called "Sparky"? Too bad.
Unlike you, I post here more than just when I have a problem with my cars... or just to try and get back at the guy who called me (you in this case), "Sparky". Or was it Skippy? Hell, I don't remember. Shows you how much I really care, don't it, skippy-spark?
Keep it up.

took you all of 8 minutes and that's the best you can do? doesn't bother you, I can tell-"LOL"
and, yet another reference to 'butthurt'-you must have a personal problem...
but, if we do 'search', that is obvious-and, as an aside, do you actually have a life?
we were all just wondering. keep up those witty posts, toadboy.
your pal, skippy, or sparky, or whatever you think your adolecent 32 year-old mind can come up with to associate my (and others') opinions of you. God, toad, you need a new writer...
Frogman June 8th, 2007, 08:27 PM 1. I would have replied sooner, but I was working on something.
2. Well, I was in the NAVY, you know.
3. No, I don't really have a life. I work about 5 months out of the year, clear well over 6 figures (not that its' really any of your business), and the rest of the time I spend online waiting for you to follow me around LvC and post pathetic attemps at trying to insult me. Every now and then I go somewhere, but even then, I take along a laptop because I gleefuly await your posts.
4. "we" being who, exactly? You, yourself, the mouse in your pocket and that MYTURN user?
5. It's actually spelled "adolescent". And who are these "others" you speak of again? Do tell.
6. Nah. Thanks for the suggestion for a new writer. Alas, I seem to be doing a pretty good job at annoying you enough to follow me around here on LvC. So it's all good, IMHO.
6. Why do you bother quoting the post above yours? Do you really feel that mentally superior to me and think I can't figure out that its' the post above you're replying to?
mmtphoto June 8th, 2007, 08:51 PM love it when you prove my point-keep posting, we all are loving this-
as if anyone could be superior to you, that's funny (actually, very funny and suprisingly easy).
Now, get help, make a new list, DON'T plagerize. Come on, toad, you can reply, you do better if you take your time, this we've all noticed.
I know it'll be tough, try not to use the word 'idiot'-it's so childish. Oh, my bad, you are...
mmtphoto June 8th, 2007, 08:57 PM o
Frogman June 8th, 2007, 08:57 PM I prove YOUR point? Uhhh. how do I do that again? Do tell.
A lot of people are superior to me. I know that, you don't seem to know this fact though.
Get help? Why? I rather enjoy antagonizing you.
It may be tough for YOU to reply, for it me, this stuff just comes naturally.
Idiot.
ground_zero298 June 8th, 2007, 08:58 PM you guys should have sex and make up.:D
Frogman June 8th, 2007, 08:59 PM Hah! Nah. Antagonizing him is a lot more fun.
Besides, I don't sleep with men and idiots. Guess which of the two he is?
mmtphoto June 8th, 2007, 09:01 PM r
mmtphoto June 8th, 2007, 09:04 PM o
Frogman June 8th, 2007, 09:06 PM Aww, he called me a "moron"! I must be moving up in the world.
BTw, thank you for coming up with that Signature. It really does show (and prove) that you are a feeble minded, grudge holding little man.
mmtphoto June 8th, 2007, 09:09 PM m
Frogman June 8th, 2007, 09:11 PM Oh, you know it.
Post averages is what it's all about, G.
Frogman June 8th, 2007, 09:15 PM Aww, damn it! You removed your signature!
Markasaurus VIII June 8th, 2007, 09:34 PM deffinately on the f-man's side on this one, he is the search Nazi, (I just hope he sees my Aryan qualities and doesn't shoot me :) )
mespock June 8th, 2007, 10:22 PM Ahhh now I know what that poll threads about... LOL...
Scorpio1118_2000 June 10th, 2007, 03:37 PM Weeeeeeeee this is fun, I bet you 2 can keep this going for days.
And in the mean time the noobs will be learning how argue and spell, and not about their marks so lets make up and talk about the gears thing again.
Besides that there was alot of good info, and by the way the frogman is right about the street racing thing its dangerous and dumb.
shagdrum June 11th, 2007, 02:58 AM wait...Sparky's back?!
How's it goin....
