The first modification that I want to do to my mark is gears, I cant decide what the best ratio would be for my car because I drive about 15 miles to school every day, half of my driving on the highway the other half in town. I have old wheels that I am going to be putting slicks on for better traction with my new gears. I want to make my car better at the track but also have it still get about 17+mpg. Could I get away with anything steeper than a 3.73? possibly a 4.10.

4.30's all the way. With a properly tuned up engine you can get up to 25mpg on the freeway with 4.30's as long as you don't go 75-80mph. In the city gas mileage should be about the same as stock gears because you will need to use less throttle to get moving.

If you want to keep some semblance of fuel economy on the highway... If the highways you generally travel on move at a 60-70mph pace, 4.10s or 4.30. If they move at 75-90 like here, 3.73s or even 3.55s.

intake, j-mod, stickier tires, 4.10s, exhaust.
