I need to vent.

I have been a member of MarkVIII.org for a long time, at least three years or more.

My account has been suspended, without warning. I am a pretty civil guy, so I have NO clue why. I have made MANY friends there and spend all day going over all the threads trying to help people out or getting much needed advice. The only time I get bucky is when someone offends me intentionally, but even then I ignore or alert the admins.

But without any warning, my account has been deactivated. I could understand a warning - SOMETHING - but no, flat out cut out.

This is the second time this has happened. Per the "rules" threads can be deleted, warnings can be given and "worst case" scenario, an account suspended. But no, my had be deactivated! Last time this happened, I understood why and when I logged in, it said suspended....

Well, end rant. Thanks for reading :P LOL

I can login just fine right now. I have had issues with markviii.org in the past where my account was deactivated for saying that conical filters are a better setup than the stock airbox.

If it is a glitch, that should teach 'em... That forum software is so... 1980's.

I could see if you did something for them to suspend your account, or even if they were trying to make an example of you, but there is no reason to suspend someone without warning. They are pretty strict about the rules though.

Yeah, I had my post edited for mentioning LMS too. I guess I wasn't good enough to get completely suspended. LOL. :)

I have to say it takes alot to get booted here and thats a good thing. People have different opinions and thats fine and after a while someone who you completely disagreed with a week ago says some thing to someone that makes alot of sense. Its tame here on the Mark side, the LS side has alot more short tempered folks and can get really annoying...thats being nice and I'll stop there.


Think a little before you say it like it is...but say it like it is. If someone has a problem with that but they do the same...its usually fine.

I first mistake was going back after the first time.

I got suspended on my Birth Day (with a broken leg) , For telling a new guy why they were deleting his post (he had a link to his eBay listing in his sig.) I told him in a post that 'the place had something against eBay'

I've never had a problem there, and when it comes for mechanical research, that's still the best place I know of for the Mark VIII. LvC tends to be more social, but markviii has a deep library of knowledge and great technical help.

Its a long story, but yes, Calvin and I had a few run ins, and those were the first step toward the creation of LVC....

I dont like to put other sites down. Calvin runs his site how he sees best. He's entitled to do that. Different people do things differently. Thats what makes the world go around. Calvin has his good side as well. We started LVC to get away from that kind of over moderation and to offer users a choice.

Although I don't agree with the way the site over there is moderated, it's his creation and he can moderate it however he wants.

The BIG FELLA had to ride up and brandish his ability to ban you and in doing so, remove a contributing member from the REST of the Membership on that Forum. Rather than treating each other with respect and having the most rudimentary level of manners, you have a bunch of 'hoodlums', for lack of a better term, smarting off, chasing off long time users who have actually contributed something to the message board, besides inane comments, "Yeah, that suxors", and insults. I can appreciate a joke between friends, but this has gotten out of hand and will no longer be tolerated.

Effective immediately, there are users who will find their accounts suspended for 1 week. No, there is no grace period, or "I'll behave beginning today." I should have taken action long ago, and the fact that these accounts weren't already suspended is because I had become lax in reading and moderating the message board myself. I will do my best to spend more time looking around, and no warnings will be sent, nor will there be any discussion/debate about what I or the other moderators considered before suspending anyone's posting priviledges. Should a suspended user wish to debate/argue/etc., their accounts will be permanently suspended.

It is has long been my belief that I would rather have fewer good quality friends, rather than a multitude of acquaintences. I am going to apply the same standards here. There are forums out there where people who feel it necessary to behave like children can play, THIS board is reserved for those who can behave like adults, exhibit respect and civility towards others, and contribute to the community.

MarkVIII.org is just a plain joke.

When I first signed up here, Joey had a bunch of rather annoying filters - hell, he was filtering "ass" , even- , had the search timeout to one search every 20 seconds, and some other restrictive stuff. After chatting him through PM, he saw things my way, and chaged a bunch of stuff around. No banning, no suspensions, none of that jive.

Lord knows I've annoyed Geno, and even Joey at times, as well. Again, no suspensions, not banning.

Calpinhead could learn a thing or two about running a forum.

The whole idea of a forum is that is owned by the community. Sure there is a site owner, but without members all you have is a server and fancy software. The community is a family, there are plenty of diversities.

Take Frogman, he has an interesting sense of humor - some dont get it. But those of use who know him, know he is joking and adds a fun aspect to threads as well as his wealth of knowledge.

This is what a "community forum" is for, to help those from all over. However with a software driven community/family one can edit, moderate and control the communities behavior. The problem is the severity of the moderation.

LvC has low moderation, but I dont think it needs to be any stricter. If there is a problem, its taken car of. Like a local bar with bad karaoke and the occasional drunk that stumbles in :) It is suppose to be a FUN environment!**

MarkVIII.org just wants EVERYONE to go sit in the corner and speak when spoken to! I mean give me a break, just mentioning LMS gets ya booted or warned (if you are lucky enough to BE warned). This is akin to East Germany of long ago - no radio for you! HA!

If your account privileges are suspended, please submit an email to admin@markviii.org explaining the infraction, and the correction you intend to make. If the moderating staff feels you understand what rules were violated and that your remedies make sense, your account will be re-instated, and your posting privileges returned after the suspension period, provided you haven't used up your "3 strikes", or the moderators don't view the problem as one so offensive that it requires a permanent ban.

I for one have no intentions of ever being associated with that website. OL' Cal must be getting some member inquery with regard to all the banning of contributing members going on...??

On a more posative note I would like to see LVC impliment a FAQ Tech forum with simple clean accurate tech articles and information. Markviii.org may have some depth in tech information but there is also plenty of bad/incorrect tech information as well. A clean filtered FAQ Tech forum would be kickass.

I would be happy to provide a wheel tech. contribution with information that would be simple to use and understand.

Maybe make this FAQ Tech forum visible to only registered members...??
