I have looked and cant find the bulb number. 3156 or 3157 97stscaddy April 22nd, 2007, 11:13 PM Its 3157 mine burnt out tonight, and I found out the red lens on the light housing had melted TO the bulb, so it broke when I took it out. Then i had to take the entire rear dash cover out so I could get the friggin glass out of the housing. Im gonna replace it with an LED so the rest of the housing doesn't melt down the road. Why it got so hot it melted the lens I have NO idea. Previous owner must have riden the brakes ALOT. gt95coupe April 23rd, 2007, 12:12 AM Either will work which is why I posted them both. 3156 If you want to get technical is the correct bulb the 3157 is a dual element which you dont need for just a 3rd brake light. The reason it melted is those bulbs generate a good bit of heat especially b/c the 3rd brake light housing is small so the little heat that is there cant escape. 97stscaddy April 23rd, 2007, 05:58 PM That could explain the melting... Im still getting an LED replacement though. gt95coupe April 23rd, 2007, 06:14 PM I am thinking to get this one but I just havent yet http://superbrightleds.com/specs/315x-xLX3.htm 97stscaddy April 23rd, 2007, 09:48 PM The problem with that type of "bulb" is that it doesn't light up the relector. It shines straight back and you end up with this little dot for a 3rd brake light. I was thinking along the lines of this... (http://cgi.ebay.com/3157-32-LED-Lights-Red-2-Bulbs-Bright-Wide-View-Angle_W0QQitemZ150115012344QQihZ005QQcategoryZ3371 3QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem) It puts light out ONLY on the sides, which lights up the entire reflector so you dont get the "dot" look. Its much more visible that way. I just ordered a pair of those. gt95coupe April 24th, 2007, 12:05 AM I have thought of that as well. It also stated that the viewing angle is 130 so I dont know what to think if you get it post some pics and I will as well jrockcentral1 April 24th, 2007, 02:19 PM I have thought of that as well. It also stated that the viewing angle is 130 so I dont know what to think if you get it post some pics and I will as well +1 :D 97stscaddy April 24th, 2007, 07:22 PM The viewing angle is in front of the LED. If the reflector is behind it... then all you will see at night is the LED, you'll probably be lucky to even noice it on a sunny day. Especially if there is only 1 LED. I had some in my Cadillac and they looked stupid. A huge square lens with this small red dot right in the middle when I hit the brakes. I got a shipping confirmation today, so hopefully they will be hear by friday or saturday. Until then im ridin with no 3rd brake light :shifty: Been pulled over once already, had to make up a story about the lens that got melted being on order at the local Lincoln dealer. :P Ill get some pics when its in. Eliot_Ness_Ls April 24th, 2007, 07:41 PM Just remember guys you might want to get more than one to match them up with the others in the rear lights. 97stscaddy April 24th, 2007, 11:12 PM As long as it doesnt look pink compared to the other lights I wont care too much. I want to switch the rest of the signal lights to LEDs as well, but I need to find/make a solid state signal/hazard flasher first. Then find a way to trick the "bulb out" warning. Which, by the way, doesn't work for the 3rd brake light. Eliot_Ness_Ls April 25th, 2007, 02:39 AM As long as it doesnt look pink compared to the other lights I wont care too much. Im not even talking about the color Im talking about the overall look. | ||||
