John Hubertz April 15th, 2007, 03:59 AM I'd love to see members post a photo (or detailed description) of their favorite aftermarket rim along with rim name/type, diameter, tire and wheel size/width info etc for their Mark VIII....
I think a thread like that would help us as we shop for aftermarket rims to update our cars - I hesitate to "try" $1500 worth of wheels and tires, only to find out it rubs, rides rough, or looks cruddy.
Also, any wheel-related experiences - good or bad.... opinion on "best" size of rim and tire especially....
Also, do the Gen I and Gen II Marks have any difference in wheel/tire clearance?
:D (can you tell I'm an engineer?)
Thanks!

I'd say obviously, his favorite is the "flake". Makes him feel surrounded by mirror images of himself.....
This is a serious post - this information on one thread might be handy for lots of new owners as they buy and restore/upgrade these fine cars.
Frogman April 15th, 2007, 05:04 AM All right, All right. Don't get your slide rule out of whack.
John Hubertz April 15th, 2007, 05:16 AM ahemm.......sorry..... I'm itching for the info.... didn't mean to come across as a grumpy old bastard - I usually like to surprise people with that feature of my personality....
Frogman April 15th, 2007, 05:20 AM Start with 1010tires.com . They have a nifty wheel offset calculator.
I'd tell you what size my 18's are, but I'd be lying to you as I don't remember.
I do remember buying a set of really nice Montrgi wheels the first time around, and the offset was off, making the wheels stick out a bit.
For a better selection of wheels, you really want to swap the hubs with Cobra/Mustang GT hubs.
John Hubertz April 15th, 2007, 05:23 AM I'm SO tempted to buy a set of these continental wheels I just found for $400.... Is it true that is a straight bolt-on swap from a late-model (1998) FWD continental?

BigBoyBoelts April 15th, 2007, 03:06 PM I like the Mach 1 wheels, like so in my sig, course you need a hub conversion, and while you are there might as well do a Cobra brake upgrade as well. I have 17's but I have been eyeing 18's here recently.

John Hubertz April 15th, 2007, 08:49 PM ...the factory unidirectionals in chrome look similar - that's the wheel I've got now.... looking to go aftermarket or upgrade to the later 'conti wheel I pictured as to me it is a cleaner look.... what wheel is that on your gen 1? What size do you recommend when upgrading?
YF12A April 17th, 2007, 02:18 PM ASA AR1's 17x7, 245/50/17 Michelins, still give me enough sidewall for metro DC pot holes. Thank you Tirerack.
k9t8m April 17th, 2007, 02:24 PM I like my wheels the best of course, but if i were to do it again i would probably go with foose lusso's or something black with a chrome lip.
