Interesting tidbit on the OEM HID system...

I'm sure most of your Mark VIII owners know that the 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII was the first car in North America to debut the HID system. So, basically you are pioneers!

Q. Is HID technology new?

A. HID lighting has been gaining ground over the past several years. HID lighting systems were first offered as an option on high-end luxury cars and are currently offered as standard equipment on 20% of all European vehicles. HID made its North American debut in 1995 on the Lincoln Mark VIII and today, HID headlights are available in the U.S. as standard on several high-end models. Although halogen is still used on the majority of vehicles manufactured today, HID will continue to make headway due to its safety and performance benefits.

I knew it, thanks to MarkVIII.org's mention of it in the Technical FAQ.

Too bad I don't have a '95 LSC to brag about. :-(

The Mark VIII beat the Mercedes SL600 by one model year to bat. Maybe by only a few months. Must have pissed those guys off to drop 130 large and then see a Lincoln with the same technology. :)

I've never seen a 1995 LSC with stock HID's but I guess there might be a couple that exist.

i believe all '95 were recalled for the HID's, and replaced with the regular headlights, the ones that didnt go in to get the recall are the rare ones, i think the recall was done because the originals had the ballast wired directly to the bulb without a connector in between..........or something like that

I've seen a few running around here with the factory HID's. they are all LCS models, either 95 or 96.

10/1/95 i believe is the exact date of the start of the production of hid's on the mark viii's... only the 95 and 96 "lsc's" produced after that date have them.. sort of like the 1964 1/2 mustang..

the recall was due to a fire issue.

mine does NOT have HIDs and the hid page in the manual has a sticker over it explaining halogen lgihting.

Same here. I have a 95 LSC, but no HIDs :( and I definately know what your saying about the high beam driving. I drive with my Highbeams on constantly, no one even notices either. Unless you are Nocturnal you have too.;)
