Annoying noise coming engine!

What's up guys!
I've own my LS since April of last year. Let me just say that I love my car!!! Anyway, I've notice an annoying noise coming from the engine when I'm going over 20mph to about 40mph (after 40 I hear the magnaflow exhaust and the other more natrual engine sounds). The noise is freaken driving nuts! It almost sounds like a video tape rewinding. At 20mph it starts and the noise starts accelerate after 30mph. The noise is also there when I'm slowing down as well!
I haven't noiced a difference in performance sinces the noise began but it makes me want to go faster so I don't hear the noise! :D I've check my belts and there fine. Could it possibly be a pully? If any of you have experienced this or have any advice it will be greatly appreciated.

i actually have a similar problem. i have that noise when the temp is below freezing, while i am at idle, and when i am decelerating. i havent found the cause, but would also like to hear why this is happening to our cars.

It really sucks because when I'm out drive with my friends or my girl I have to deal with the sound. I find myself talk very loud when I begin to hear the noise. I'm sure who every is in my car at that point and time is like; dude, I'm right here!!!
I've taken it into a couple of places but they say they can't hear the sound. I haven't taken it into the dealership yet but that's my next move.

Could be the hydraulic fan assembly. Is your car pre 2003? If so it has a hydraulic fan.

Cool, now I'm getting somewhere. I have a 02 V8. How do I check the fan or is it something the shop with have to look at?

If its not the fan check all of your vaccum lines one of them could be leaking causing the noise.
