ok guys, tommorrow im going to go look at a 92 Lincoln MarkVII LSC that they are selling near me. Its going for 895 but im going to try and bring it home for 800 straight. Do you guys know what I should look out for. I know the suspension is the first thing i should look at, but its not really that important b/c I plan on switching to coils right away. The person says that the car runs strong and that it does need a new ABS pump b/c the brakes go down to the floor, and also needs exterior work, which is no prob, i can do it myself or with a friend of mines that owns a shop. The car only has 90,000 miles, and thats what caught my attention. thanks again!!!

The brake system can be expensive, unless you are willing to convert to non-ABS.

Other than that, check out the transmission real close. Make sure the TV bushing is in good shape, that it shifts smooth through all the gears, and that the fluid is not burnt or discolored.

naw im going to most probably go with a rebuilt unit, that what i did with my 95 cougar that had the same problem, the brake would go to the ground, and my mechanic charged me like 120 for everything. So if this is the case in which it most probably is, then thats not a bad estimate for the abs pump. How can i go with a non ABS unit?

Perhaps you didn't hear me...(internet joke ;) ) but the complete brake system is expensive. To replace the entire system is well over $1,000, and probably closer to $2,000. The Mark VII has a very unique system, which makes it tough for most general mechanics to properly diagnose without throwing parts at it.

This is just a warning, though. This is not to say that you may not be able to fix it for a few hundred dollars. Typically the accumulator goes out, which can be done for $100 and anyone who can spin a wrench can replace in a few minutes. If you can, take a code scanner with you and get the ABS codes.

Josh, i went to look at the car, and the brakes dont go to the ground, they are just hard, and the car stops but slowly, other than that its in pretty good shape for 17 years, and it has 84,000 miles. Dont know if they are actual miles but the car is in pretty good shape. Do you think the brake problem might be this accumulator?

Maybe. I don't like to say "it is" or "it isn't" in situations like this, honestly. There is a yellow and a red brake warning light...which one is illuminated? It could be the relay as well. Honestly, I think that it needs a flush, a relay, and an accumulator from the sounds of it.

Yes. Use a paper clip. You can get a scanner from Wal-Mart for $25. It's a good investment if you plan on dealing with any Ford with EEC-IV.

The relay will be a junkyard item. Search for the accumulator link on here, it can be had for about $100.

OK.
I've been quiet long enough.

If it's a Green 1992 Lincoln Mark VII LSC Florida car with no rust and a cream or white or tan interior and is selling for under $1000.00 and Dude doesn't take it, then me and Josh and Jerry are taking a road trip to freakin' Miami.

Josh, you bring the pretzels.

Sounds good to me. Dude didn't say if it is green, though. Last time I went to get a car from Florida was quite memorable, what with all of the beer, no sleep, and 16 hours of straight driving. :p

acutally im going to go get the car by this week, Ive held up long enough, I was thinking about it a lot b/c the car does have a hit in the front and needs reparing, and also the electrical messege centers inside dont light up, including the radio that dosent turn on, but that can be b/c of age. Also the car needs the abs repaired and im concerned about this issue b/c what happens if im not able to repair, if its goig to cost to much money im going to have a junker parked infront of my house. And also the interior is filthy , starting the carpet and the leather seats need to be cleaned also, the car inside is filthy, oh and i forgot the car also needs a paint job. The car over all needs a lot of time and money put on her.
