got my new steering rack and outer tie rods on yesterday. car is still detonating/spitting/sputtering. i thought i may have had water in the gas, cuz i filled it up and as soon as i pulled out of the station, it started. i put STP fuel treatment. still doing it. gonna try a new ICM. if that don't work, i guess i will need a new distributor. cleaned my new cap and rotor, so that is not it. when i got the car, i put new wires/plugs/cap/rotor/and fuel filter. have any of you guys seen this? if so, what was it.

What's your timing at and what grade of gas do you run? If your timing is advanced from stock and you run low grade gas, it'll detonate. If it's not that, I would try some dry gas - if there's any water in the tank, it should help dissipate it.

Good luck.

Pull a fuel sample and inspect for water. An easy way to do this is pull the filter and dump it into a glass.

i had to replace the lower intake, and we set the timing at 10 degrees. i have been using 87. stoped in a gas station and filled up with 89, and that is when it started. last night i put about 11 gallons of 93, i toped it off. after i put the 89 in it, i put a bottle of STP fuel treatment, it said it evaporates water, and another bottle when i toped it off with 93. a buddy told me that the same thing happened with his 93 mustang GT, found out there a piece in the distributor that needed replacing, and it was doing the same thing my car is doing. if that is the case, i with just put another distributor in it.
