Burning smell

Seems like I remember reading a thread on this but i'm not sure. I've notice a burning smell when i'm driving with my heat on. At first I thought it was outside in the air. Then I noticed everytime I would turn the heat on, I could smell something that seems like it's burning coming through the vents. Then one day after I parked the car, I lifed the hood and I could smell it a little bit either. Does anyone have any idea of what this can be? Any help would be gladly appreciated.

most likely it's oil.

either you have spilled oil somewhere - or - you have a common pre-2003 LS problem with leaky valve cover gaskets and oil is leaking out onto your exhaust. it only takes a little bit to smell.

I remember I started off in first gear with the lincoln and hammered it, then shifted about 6500 and did that for 2nd as well. I was at highway speed, and then I could smell a very bad burning smell. SOmeone in the car claims to have seen smoke comming out from the vents. And I think I did too. I dropped them off and took it to work, driving normal and I pulled into a parking place and realized that on the left side of the car, there was smoke puffing out. It wasnt a haze it looked like a very transparent frieght train smoke. I dont know if it had done that forever, or if I was just now noticing it. I dont normally run it hard, I was just getting onto the Interstate.

With all the problems that I've had, and all the problems my friends have...I'm not sure I will ever buy another Ford.
