I want to install a 5 speed manual transmission in my 93 mark viii. Can anyone help me with advice, like clutch pedal linkage etc... I would appreciate it. roknrollmkviii.

Yeah. Use the search function. I don't mean to sound like an ass (even though I kinda am one), there are several threads on this subject.

One guy here has done it. Or was it two. Hell, I dont remember. Who else besides mike?

Talk to Mike (94m5). He has done it.

I'd like for someone to swap in a 5 speed auto. I'd be up for that.

I've been considering the T-56. What's the difference in length/shifter loc. from the 5 spd, anyone?

I was just about to ask about the T56 opposed to the T45.

I think the t-56 is very close to the 4r70w in length. I was reading a write up on a 4r70w swap into a 03 cobra last night and it fit perfectly. Worst case senario you would have to extend the handle backwards... I could be completely wrong here just making an educated guess.

I have been thinking about this mod too...If I throw a 5 speed in my mark I would keep it for sure.

if you are really interested the T56 from ford racing is $2789.00 and LVC cost would be $2450.00 free freight. Oh the clutch and stuff is NOT included, this is a new complete trans. I am not sure if you can mid shift the thing like the other Tremec's, there is a plate in the mid position but I just dont know.

Do you have the specs on the T-56? I think there are 3 different types with different gear ratios for each gear. And does it come with the Ford bellhousing so it bolts up to the 4.6?

the T56 was used int he 03/04 cobra (a midified version is used in the GT500) so yes you can get a bellhousing to fit a mod motor.

i have a vid on my comp that i got from the LOD forums with some sort of 5 speed in a mark so it can be done for shure. a lot of the trucks and stang gt's come 5-speed and get wrecked. so hit up the junk yard and get a trans and a bell housing that will work. inorder for you to put the clutch peddel in the car you have to relocate the ECU. the one that i have seen done cut the wires and spliced them and remounted the ecu under the drvers seat but thats 53 (i think) wires for you to cut and splice thats a lot of work under the dash.

i too have ben thinking about a 5-speed swap. i like the auto for all out drag but i just think the 5-speed is funner to drive.

Now you really have to put those wheels and tires on that car and hammer it! That looks tite!

Ford Racing T-56 is for either the late..elect speedo..or early..mech speedo and have the gear ratios of 297-207-143-100-.80-.62 1st thru 6th respectivly. They are made for the ford 4.6 sohc or dohc so the Mark is covered. They have the 10spline input and 31 spline output and 440 lbs./ft of torque cap.

Well I certainly deeply considered doing a manual conversion on my Mark VII before it was wrecked (haha it still runs hard as hell, well...minus the fact the clutches and bands are burnt from fluid leakage)
but anyhow, it was actually not just the tranny I was changing, I had a 460 that was supposed to be installed as well.
I though about putting an upgraded T-56 in the Mark VIII but that thought didnt last too long, especially since i have been told recently that i would lose my nice wood grain console(parts of it due to how far forward the shifter is) and also i would have to move my computer(not a real biggie) and lastly it sure would be fun trying to change a clutch (drop the exhaust, the carrier, the driveshaft, the tranny, . . .) ya get my point? hell, ya might as well just get a cobra and stick the mark body on it lol.

I have heard rumors that some 85 mark VII's (the ones with the BMW I-6 turbo diesel) came with 5 speed manuals, though i have yet to track one down.

i will just stick to a stick in my rx7(w/408stroker and borg warner 5sp) and my civic haha stupid hondas.

how about we contact Quaife for one of their Sequentual Manual Gearboxes($12k) and stick it in a mark??
