It would not surprise me. And why not?? Would be a great car for the traveling salesman who wants something sporty, wants a Ford, and does not want to go the SUV or Mini-Van route. I like it.

If they were talking about taking the Mustang platform and making a sport sedan/wagon, then I'd say that were a good idea... UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME.

If they do this (4 door, 5 door) they will water down the value of the label. And with that, Ford will continue to cease to be.

But wait..the original Mustang was based on the Falcon platform.

The Falcon also had a Ranchero style pickup.

That thing is hot and it would sell. The Magnums sure as he!! do. And most of the 5.7 magnums will hand us MarkVIII drivers our respective AZZES.

First, about the 5.7's handing us markVIII's our a$$es? I would hope so, you're talking almost a decade of technology!

Second, Dodge designed those vehicles as 4 door cars, they didn't start out as sport cars. Can the mustang frame even support a wagon chasis? It would be like Dodge making the viper into a wagon. Ok, maybe a little extreme. Maybe like a Camaro or TA wagon? Stupid idea! Now, if they would have came out with a Marauder wagon, that wouldn't be so bad. Its a large vehicle to begin with. I think you guys get my point..........

I wouldn't mind a 3 (or 5) Door smaller muscle car. I just don't want to ruin the Mustang brand. I also don't know what they'd call it. What old labels still have marquis.

The use of Zephyr, though I thought it was cool, didn't work. So I doubt naming it Falcon, or Torino, or Pinto/Bobcat (bad idea there) will help much. I guess Falcon would be the best choice, leaving us with more cars, with the same name, that are different overseas.

But I can take a lot of decades older cars than MarkVIII's and still hand you your AZZES. Don't get me wrong, I like my VIII, but I know when I am outclassed by other cars. I don't get embarrassed when I race the Mark, because I don't run the likes of AMG's and Vipers, and Corvettes.

It doesnt matter if the car is quick if its ugly as a bucket full of A-Holes..... And that Mustang wagon damn near takes the cake, but this is just my opinion

with the years the MarkVIII came out and what their competition was during those years I would say the Mark held their own. They weren't meant to be an extreme sports car but a luxary car with some power. I highly doubt Lincoln thought we were going to do what we have with the Marks. Just do a comparison to the Marks and other cars in their class in those years. But, that's besides the point..........;)

It's be updated saying that they are NOT going to give the mustang a 4 door option, but there something in there saying that there IS a 4-dr based off the mustang drivetrain...

Isn't the current Mustang based off of the LS/S-Type/T-Bird Chassis anyway?

Ford: No way we'll make four-door Mustang
Company denies reports it is considering making Mustang variants.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Ford Motor Company released a statement today calling reports that the company would make four-door variants of its Mustang sports car "not true."

"The Mustang is an icon and will continue in its current form: a unique two-door, rear-wheel drive, 2+2 performance car," the statement says.

The term "2+2" refers to a car, like the Mustang, with small back seats.

The current issue of the auto enthusiast magazine AutoWeek includes a report that Ford was considering making four-door variants of the next-generation Mustang, possibly including a wagon.

"We are standing by our sources for that story," said Bob Gritzinger of Autoweek, acknowledging that the company might have changed its mind.

Ford's statement does not mean that the company would never manufacture a vehicle using the fundamental engineering or even some design cues from a future Mustang, Ford Brand Communications Manager Alan Hall said.

But the Mustang name will only be attached to the classic Mustang-style car, Hall said.

"You have to appreciate that we treat the Mustang as one of our crown jewels," said Ford marketing spokesman Jim Cain, "and you don't wear them to every party."

Ford will unveil a concept car called "The Interceptor" at the Detroit Auto Show in January. That car will be based on the Mustang's rear-wheel-drive architecture but it will not be a Mustang, the company emphasized in its announcement.

There are currently no production plans for that vehicle, the company said.
