gray1g December 12th, 2006, 09:50 PM My check engine light came on again today, the car was stumbling something fierce. From past experience I believe it's another coil. I had it back to the dealership 2 times already for the same problem. Now this makes a 3rd. Is this a case for the Lemon Law lawyers? I would think so. I had a lemon 2-3 years ago. Issues with a power seat that never worked. Any insight would be great!

9enisP December 12th, 2006, 11:26 PM did you buy it new? Most lemon laws don't apply to used cars, whether their from a dealership or not.
Frogman December 12th, 2006, 11:29 PM Depends on the state.
2001LS8Sport December 13th, 2006, 07:12 AM I've only heard of lemon laws applying to the original owner....with the exception of CA...which has some strange deal for used owners too IIRC.
Next, you show you have a 2000 model. If you find a way to get that lemoned, let us know...because quite honestly, I don't see any way in God's green earth. The car is 7 years old!!
Quik LS December 13th, 2006, 07:21 AM This is exactly why i always recommend replacing all the plugs and coils at the same time - the cost of the labour, time without your car and breaking down at an inconvenient time - far out weight the extra $$$ to replace them all at once (IMHO).

If I read correctly there is a law that protects owners of used cars that have an extended warranty. I have Fords ESP (top of the line). As stated earlier I've had this problem 3 times now. If anything comes out o this I'll be sure to post.

Just do as Quik says and fix it right the first time and be done with it.

Agreed! It is a seven year old car. I just got a 00, and needed to replace coils and plugs, and seals. Something I did not know when I bought it. Seals cost me 450, coils were 205 for all 8, and I installed them myself. Used cars will have probs after 7 years, but if you ask me, it is still better then buying new for 40,000 and being way upside-down two years into it,IMO. Replace your coils yourself(very good tech article on here on how to do it) and tally it up under the pains of a used car:)

I'm definately not going to pay for parts and then do the labor myself if I paid $2,000 for a warranty. I asked Ford both times to replace all of the coils/gaskets but they wouldn't. I guess in the long run they will!

My car spent alot of time recently at a dealership and i was talking to them about the coil issues. Two different guys said they used to work for a Lincoln dealer and the coil problems were a big deal. Per FoMoCo, they can and will only replace the bad coils. I just had four replaced under warranty on an '05, and its no secret that the other four WILL go bad, but i have to wait till that happens to replace them under warranty. You have a seven yr old car, If you want them all replaced at the same time its gonna come out of your pocket. I know it doesnt seem right, but thats how FoMoCo works. And the ESP can be a pain in the ass, not as easy going as the factory warranty. Good Luck
