Frogman November 4th, 2006, 09:43 PM When you can spend time working on this?

Dern Humpus November 4th, 2006, 09:50 PM goin in from the top, gutsy :)
cavemansmarkviii November 4th, 2006, 10:16 PM Looks awesome. Good work! Alternator is a tad grungy though.
Frogman November 4th, 2006, 10:24 PM Yeah, i know, caveman. I will eventually buy another one, take it apart, and have the housing powdercoated. At this time though, I just wanted to get the effing motor into the car. Accessories, and easily accessible stuff, I can replace with all new components later on. I did add a new AC compressor, clutch and pulley, as well as a new PS pump, since they are a PITA to r and R.
02V8Sport November 4th, 2006, 10:57 PM WOW! That looks awesome!
chickenviii November 5th, 2006, 12:43 AM purrdy

Hey frogman, what kind of investment is this costing you? I am interested in perhaps doing this sometime in the future.
KD00LS November 5th, 2006, 11:31 AM Looks killer, can you tell us some specs on the motor?
MarkVIII93 November 5th, 2006, 11:58 AM thats tight bruh
94m5 November 5th, 2006, 12:23 PM Looks good Alex.
Looks like everything went in ok?
Dern, From the top is the ONLY way I R&R VIII motors. Too much of a hassle to drop the K member for me. IF I had a decent shop with a hoist I would do it the other way.
Frogman November 5th, 2006, 11:36 PM Thanks guys. I only hope the motor will run as well as we planned it to. Otherwise, I swear to you all, I will put 20lbs - I know, a bit overkill- of RDx around it, and blow the damned thing up.
GMan, motor alone, about 15K. Total bill is floating at around 30K for the entire project.
KD, It's got red shiny stuff on it.
I don't mean to sound like a smart ass, but I really don't wanna type about all the stuff that's been done to it tonight. But to give you an idea, 289 Forged Stroker, 8.5:1, head work (lots of god damned head work.. ugh), 75lb injectors, aeromotive rails, etc.
Yeah Mike, everything went in fairly easy. We fought with the tranny bellhousing for a bit, but eventually, it gave in and it let the flexplate go into it.
The solid rubber motor mounts (yes, I found some) seem to be about 1/2 inch taller than stock, so I may have to drop the K member a bit. We test fitted the hood for S and G's today, and it won't close as it stands now, because of the intake.
Alternately, I may have a Cobra style Fiberglass hood made. But right now, I don't know if I want to plunk down upwards of $3800 for a custom hood. Granted, I'd own the mold, but still.
I wish to still keep my option open about the PM request if it's ok with you, for I may still have questions. :D
We'll likely have the car running later this week, I'm just waiting on my Xcal2 to get back to me with a base tune, and for the AN fuel lines to be done. (I don't have any cuters that will cut the AN lines straight, so my machinist is doing them).
94m5 November 5th, 2006, 11:58 PM No problem man, I gave you my cell# also.
KD00LS November 6th, 2006, 12:39 PM Ah I worded it wrong, I just wanted to know the projected hp.
BLACK SUNSHINE 95LSC November 6th, 2006, 12:58 PM THE RED LOOKS AWESOME, NOW MAYBE MIX IN SOME FORD BLUE, MAYBE SOME BRAIDED HOSE AND FITTINGS.
SHE SHURE IS PERTY, LIKE THE COBRA INTAKE, MAYBE YOU COULD COMPROMISE ON A SCOOP OR A RAM AIR SETUP AND CUT HOLE IN STOCK HOOD AND MOUNT SCOOP, MIGHT SAVE YOU SOME CASH FOR NOW, THEN LATER DO CUSTOM HOOD? EITHER WAY, INCREDIBLE JOB, CANT WAIT TO HEAR THE TIMES WHEN ALL FINISHED.
CURRENTLY WORKING ON MINE, GETS DISCOURAGING WHEN I SEE A MASTERPEICE LIKE THAT, BUT AS LITTLE MONEY TRICKLES IN, IT WILL NEVER SEE THE BANK, JUST MY MARK VIII PROJECT FUND..
KEEP US POSTED ON PROGRESS, VERY IMPRESSIVE SO FAR !!
chriswells78 November 6th, 2006, 01:46 PM Haha, I knew you had to be on this board DO. LOL

Thanks.
I'm looking into AN water lines. The fuel lines will be AN, mainly because the Aeromotive rails are tapped for AN.
It's not a matter of affording the custom hood, it's just that originally I wanted to spend about 15K on the whole project. Granted, Murphy always says your initial costs estimations for such projects are most likely always double of what you thought. After all the money that went into this project, IMHO, saving a little cash through making a cheesy fitting hood by cutting it and "gluing" a scoop in place... well, that just wouldn't work for me. I may not have much class, but I have SOME.
We'll see how the motor runs on the new base tune before I put her on the gooseneck and take her to a dyno. :/
Chris... umm. DUH! :p
BLACK SUNSHINE 95LSC November 6th, 2006, 05:33 PM Its cool, it was only a suggestion to save you couple thousand, I dont have much extra money with a wife and kids so i have to make due. I am sory if I offended you but if I had $3200 or whatever it was, I would never spend it on just a hood, my wife would throw me out, thats all..
again, that engine/cobra intake looks awesome, cant wait to see when alternator and other things get done..
peace
Frogman November 6th, 2006, 06:00 PM No offense taken, guy. It's all good.
BLACK SUNSHINE 95LSC November 6th, 2006, 06:10 PM Great, I have gotten some useful info from people shooting out ideas. I figured I might be out of line when that beautiful engine was on screen, I just like to help if I can.
I would really like some info to what cobra intake works with gen i marks and what is involved like relocating vacume line or any little tidbit you can give me would help, I am goin to do that to "whitey" my other mark. got 2 this year and plan on 2 more next year. both mine have 61k and 66k on them, so the next 2 will be 100k for $1000-$1500 and I will rebuild and replace parts on them..
thanks in advance, will try to buy intake in next few weeks so anyones input is greatly appreciated on this cobra intake swap..
thanks
cavemansmarkviii November 6th, 2006, 06:38 PM ... And I wasn't trying to slam you about the alternator. Just a rib. It really looks great man. I wish mine looked so good.
Frogman November 6th, 2006, 06:45 PM Caveman, I didn't even give your comment a second thought, let alone did I think you were trying to slam me. Hell, I should have pressure washed that engine bay too, I know. But that's all little stuff that ain't gonna bug me. I'm not after car show contests here. heh So it's all good, man.
Dr. Paul November 7th, 2006, 07:01 PM Looks slow. :D
I like it.
Frogman November 7th, 2006, 07:14 PM Well. It's a forking lincoln! How fast do you expect it to be? lmao.
Thanks.
Dr. Paul November 7th, 2006, 07:49 PM Maybe you might crack off a high 13 with a little luck and a good tailwind.
Frogman November 7th, 2006, 07:58 PM true, true...
kustomizingkid November 7th, 2006, 09:40 PM That much for a hood is redicoulous. I know some metalshapers that could make a hood for a lot less. It would be out of have to be either steel or ally.
Frogman November 7th, 2006, 10:25 PM This is for a fiberglass hood, AND the mold. I would actually own the mold.
kustomizingkid November 9th, 2006, 01:22 AM This is for a fiberglass hood, AND the mold. I would actually own the mold.
That makes a lot more sense. Why fiberglass? Why not metal.
94m5 November 9th, 2006, 08:57 AM well, there seems to be an untapped market for fiber glass hoods on the gen2 VIII.s Alex would own the mold used to produce them, and could make some money off of them. No idea if the Gen2 owners would actually pony up tho.
turborich November 9th, 2006, 10:44 AM Your engine looks SWEET! can't wait to hear what kind of HP it makes.
Dr. Paul November 9th, 2006, 11:06 AM Froggy, I can build your whole fuel system for you. I'm a pro. No need to pay someone to do it - let me know if you're interested.
You can check out mine if you'd like a reference.
94m5 November 9th, 2006, 12:53 PM I'd make the 6 hour trip to come help ya, one weekend if you needed it. It's just a little gas money.
Mike
Frogman November 9th, 2006, 01:18 PM Paul, I still have that excel spreadsheet you sent me with all the parts needed.
:D
Mike, I may take you up on that offer. Thank you.
Right now, the motor runs. Started her up for about 5 seconds , after I uploaded the new tune. My ony problem is with the pass side motor mount. the holes won't line up with the kmember holes. And yes, it is the R motor mount. :D
Just little stuff left. Radiator, Tranny cooler (that's gonna be a bish, me thinks), and I should be GTG.
94m5 November 10th, 2006, 01:29 PM Mike, I may take you up on that offer. Thank you.
No problem, just give me a couple days notice so I can change any plans I may have for the next few days. I'm always up for alittle wrenchin. I would load my tool box up but I think my "little" 1/2 ton would have a problem with a 3000 pound tool box in the bed. I could bring a few milkcrates full o' tools.
Mike
Frogman November 10th, 2006, 05:36 PM Thanks Mike.
We got the motor mounts bolted up. I'm waiting on a new Rack and pinion unit. For some reason the Rebuilt one I got from FORD, the D on the R&P unit is 180 backwards.
Max sent me another one yesterday.. :/
While I'm waiting for that, I'm going to relocate the Cruise control box, Try to figure out how I'm gonna run that Intake tube and start tidying up the engine compartment..
