found it between the pivot point for the driverside windshield wiper and that black plastic running from ds to ps with the vent in it whatever its called
where does it go? on my 2000 ls v8 sport?

This most certainly reminds me of the little plastic rivets that hold the cowl (the black pastic piece where the windshield wiper rests) on. Check under your hood and make sure that all of your plastic shrouding in the engine bay is attached. Pull and push a little if you need to but be gentle.
The piece looks kind of generic, so it may not be to the car at all (maybe fell off a shelf in your garage?) But if it DOES go to the car, it definitely holds some sort of trim panel on, or covers up a screw hole.
If you give me a day or so I'll do some investigating on my own car but right now it's sitting in a campus parking garage a half mile away in the rain.

I believe I have your solution. If you look at the extreme left or right side of the cowl (the black piece the windshield rests on), you should see small black humps. There is one on each side. If one of these are missing, then this is where it goes. I don't have a picture but I diagramed it real quick in Paint:

Cowl pin that is removed to access the Cabin Air Filter. Same as those utilized on your engine cover. Hang onto it.

i will check but i was lookin today and only noticed a different type but similar concept plastic piece missing haha i couldn't find any empty

its not the same as the pieces that hold the engine cover on. they are similar but i was looking at them and their different the ones for the engine cover
anyways im not gonna lose it my cabin air filter is about due anyways so i'll check it out

looked today. definately not it. there is already one thats really faded almost white. plus its not the same type of "plastic piece", it was more like the two that are similar that hold the engine cover on

there are three of those that go on the black piece closeset to the front bumper, between your headlights, had mine off today to detail the car. actually i need one so if you would send it to me.
