Snow Tire Question

I've been told that higher profile tires are better for winter driving. Can I use LS 16" rims with 225/55/16 snow tires to replace my 17" rims with 235/50/17 tires? I think the overall diameters of both is close but will I have any clearance problems? High performance is not a winter requirement here in northern Alberta.
P.S. I love my LS

Those will fit fine. I put 225/60/16 on my old LS, stock size for the 16" was 215/60. No clearance issues. But keep in mind, the tire will be narrower and actually shorter. The sidewall will be 2 tenths of an inch taller (not much) but the overall circumference will be shorter.... not necessarily what you might be trying to achieve.

It's not a high profile tire per-se, but a thinner tire width that will cut through the snow and slush and get a better contact patch than a wider tire that could float on top of it. I'm not sure what the stock tire size is for the 16" wheel on the LS, but if you got a tire that was along those measurements, it should be fine. I think my snows are 225/55's, but they are on steel wheels for a Taurus.

To mholhut and Fla02LS, Thanks for your input. I went today and shopped for tires. Got the best price from my local Lincoln dealership for the Goodyear Ultra Grip GW3's I wanted.

i think the winters on mine are 225/60/16 but id have to double check to be sure. And ya they are definately a necesity during edmonton winters. Im just taking my time putting them on, still got a little while till we get snow that stays....i hope.
