eglade September 26th, 2006, 06:13 PM I'm getting ready to upgrade to drilled rotors and wanted to replace grease seals on hubs and pack bearings while I'm in there. I went to Auto Zone and they said they don't stock seals for MKVIII, but sell a hub/bearing/seal assembly. I don't mind upgrading but this seems unecessary if bearings are still in good condition. Anyone else run into this problem ? 97 MKVIII
Any maintenance or inspection requirements on the rear disc/hub assembly other than basic visual inspection ?
I'm replacing rear rotors at the same time and would like to have any required parts on hand.
Thanks for your help
Dern Humpus September 26th, 2006, 07:32 PM lol. It isnt an upgrade, its how it works. You have to replace the hub assembly, its factory.
New cars > you

you'll need a "90's ford rear break tool" to back off the rear breaks
mespock September 27th, 2006, 07:05 AM Never never unless it's the last place on earth you have to go.. or if you need some car washing stuff.. Never go to Autozone...
Your better off at a Wal-Mart.... that's how bad they are...
Plus you have to an IQ less than a Orangutan to work there

eglade September 29th, 2006, 09:25 AM Good point, thanks for the reminder. Was at work driving by and thought I would stop in. Will give self 50 lashes for my transgressions. I forgot what dip:q:q:q:qs Auto Zone guys were. Have no idea what you are talking about if it's not on the "green screen" in front of them. Forgot why I quit going there after a hiatus from car repairs.
cavemansmarkviii September 29th, 2006, 09:29 AM I don't know how I feel about the orangutan remark Rich, some of my family is still swinging from the trees. Strong like bull, smart like rock.

Nah,
I use a medium size pair of needle nose pliers. Just use the tips of the pliers locked down in the grooves of the piston to spin it back in.

I understand.. sometime you just want to believe that they might know what they are doing.. but I haven't found an Autozone yet where they do...
I've had them even screw up oil... oil... while I'm pointing at the stuff I wanted a case.
cavemansmarkviii September 29th, 2006, 10:31 AM Great comeback Rich. We need you to express your real feelings about auto zone though. Keeping things bottled up inside can only harm your psyche. Caveman psychology, maybe a new career?

Oh I've posted a lot about Autogrone ever since my Torque Converter issue when I found out what a bunch of idiots work there. And not just at the stores... Autozone Central....
Dominus September 29th, 2006, 10:52 PM I think Autozone is a secret plot created by new car manufacturers to force us to stop maintaining our cars and buy new ones. Seriously.

I like it!!
Though really, I'm not a conspiracy theory guy, really..
Try getting a right rear brake caliper bracket for a '92 Mark VII, Ha! After the first one arrived after waiting two days, it was wrong. Same for the hardware kit. Hopefully the right one will arrive this Tuesday. Yeah, I had to cross reference the part myself, there Rich. I bet you knew that any how.
I have better luck getting parts for my '64 half ton.
