Paint Matching

Let's say I want to get a touch up kit for some very minor blemishes in my paint. Where can I find the paint codes to match it. Ford has a couple dozen silvers, is there a way to match my VIN to the specific paint color, or perhaps is it documented somewhere on the vehicle. My old Land Rover used to have the paint code written on the radiator mount. Any ideas?

on the door, by the latch, should be a sticker with some specs.

You can find your paint code on the VIN label inside the driver's door near the top of the dash. You'll see a section in the lower left corner that says "EXT PNT". The two digits after it is the paint code. Here is a picture of the VIN label:

Go to PaintScratch ( http://www.paintscratch.com/ ). They'll match it by the exterior color code (see Ken's picture above for the label with the color code) and by the VIN. They send you a color matching "label" that you paint with their matched paint so you can compare before you paint the car.
