When I turn on the A/C the car wants to overheat. If I leave it off, no problems. I've read everything under search under overheating and ac. no one really touched on it. Does the fan change when you turn the A/C on, or could it be the A/C compressor is going and when I turn it on it puts such a strain on the motor that it wants to overheat? Any suggestions would be great.

Your post made it seem like you had missed staffamerica's post.

At 12:24, You asked why the car might overheat

At 16:56, staffamerica pointed to the fans as a possible culprit

At 20:14, you posted asking why your car would overheat as if you hadn't just been given one possible reason for this malfunction.

Have you made sure the condensor and radiator are clear of debris?

my car and my friends car both do the same exact thing! 94 & 95 mark VIII. When you kick the a/c on they don't actually overheat but the gauge climbs almost near the top and that'a about 235+ degrees. The fan works fine and the radiator/condesor are both clear. We can't figure it out either. Good luck!

Exactly!!!!..... It doesn't overheat but, It climbs up to the O in normal and then steadies out there. Then I shut it off and it goes back to just above the M. Which has been normal operating temp. My condenser is clean, the radiator is also. The only thing I wonder is, I put a 3200 stall in and placed the additional cooler in front of the radiator. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

not speaking from mark viii experience here,but from general automotive cooling system experience,the radator is probably starting to plug up with crap in the lower parts.

Turning the a/c on brings the condensor temperture upto about 170-180 degrees,which then is passed on to the radiator as the air is pushed/pulled through it.

usually at this point the radiator is just sufficiently cooling the engine /trans and the a/c puts it over the top.

This was exactly my issue with my 1988 turbocoupe,the rad and condensor looked perfect but after months of futzing with it i replaced radiator and it cooled beautifully ever since.

Moes8, That sounds like very good advise. I have 136,000 on her and I would say she deserves a new radiator. I guess I should probably replace the water pump while I'm in there also. Thanks for your advice.:headbang:

Mr Wilson, I appreciate your advise. I have messed with the cooling of this car so many times, that's one aspect I can honestly say I have that down to an art (filling the crossover tube).LOL But thanks again for the input.

Funny -my local Ford (closest Lincoln dealer sold out and converted to Nissan) will not do a coolant flush on the Mark (or a Cobra) they say it is too time consuming and cause more issues than it is worth. Nice huh! Needless to say they are not Blue Oval ceritifed.
