I had my LS in for routine maintenence and they pretty much insisted on doing the latch recall fix. I have a child seat in back so it made sense to me. I guess a good dealer should be upforward about it needing to be done.

if a fully grown adult is sitting in the back, how can it hurt you? its not that heavy and you bend that way in an accident anyway? mine are purposfully unlatched and spaced forward about an inch to let the subs that i have in the trunk breathe, otherwise the rear decklid vibrates along with the outside of the car.

First does this apply to 2002's as well?
also, without going to the Stealership rape shop, oops... I mean dealership repair shop, how can I find out if the car has had the latches repaired. It might have been done on mine when the car was my FIL's lease, but I don't know.
I do all my own maintainence on my LS so I have no contact with the highly inept local lincoln and ford dealerships.
Is there somewhere I can go online or someone that I can call to find out?
