MrWilson August 24th, 2006, 04:13 PM I was drivin a friends 04 gt today, auto. To me the car felt much stronger than the mark, much more responsive too. I know its got a bit more tq, and a bit less hp...but that doesnt seem to be the real diff to me. Do they have solid mounts? would that be why it feels more responsive? i remember when i welded my mount solid for like 10 min it felt close to the same in responsivity (new word?) as the gt does, perhaps thats the key?
MarkOfDeath August 24th, 2006, 04:27 PM the trans is also different also the the gear ratio, the car is lighter, it has springs and is alot more stiffer I mean they are way different cars apples to oranges
Frogman August 24th, 2006, 04:30 PM same engine output (actually, a bit more) and almost 700lbs lighter. That's why it feels more responsive.
MarkVIII93 August 24th, 2006, 04:57 PM They seem to be WAYY tighter driving cars compared to ours.. They're smooth and stiff. Our cars feel sloppy and flimsy. I raced my buddy's 03 stick from a 10 roll and it was dead even. I pulled maybe a fender by 50mph.
driller August 24th, 2006, 05:29 PM You're also talking about a 2 year old suspension vs. what? Probably an 8 to 13 year old suspension?

thats what im talkin about. the smooth vs sloppy.

this is also true, but mostly im talking about driveline. The feeling when you apply the throttle, with the mark its like the driveline doesnt exist, but with the gt you feel every second of it. maybe thats cuz it makes torque better, but my question is, does anyone know what kind of mounts are on the gt?
Frogman August 24th, 2006, 06:47 PM Let's see how that Gt will do when it gets to be 8-10 years old on OEM components.
MarkVIII93 August 24th, 2006, 07:16 PM I think poly urethane bushing would help that BIG time.
marked8 August 24th, 2006, 07:55 PM same engine output (actually, a bit more) and almost 700lbs lighter. That's why it feels more responsive.
Mark VIII's actually have 20 (30 with the LSC) more flywheel HP than the '04 GT's
KainDTE August 24th, 2006, 08:15 PM I rape mustangs no problem the new ones will eat me alive but any year before that I have never lost too... I raced my friends 91 with headers chip intake and exhaust and it was dead even

foxes dont count....
vr4 August 24th, 2006, 08:45 PM different customer base means different tuning for suspension and powertrain.
stiffer suspension, tires, shift pattern and intensity, more responsive throttle.
this is like wondering why a corvette handles better and feels more precise than a CTS-V. it has a different target customer and is tuned for that market.

The new ones will not rape you.
MarkOfDeath August 24th, 2006, 09:45 PM oh the new stangs can see 13.6s stock with a good driver and Ive seen it, so unless you plan on fixing that 14.7 timesleep I mean timeslip plan on getting your ass handed to you f------ nasty style
vr4 August 24th, 2006, 10:04 PM 5-7mph is a pretty good difference in trap speed.
we trap 97-98 stock in a good run. they trap 103-106 on a good run.
they will rape us.
evillally August 24th, 2006, 11:29 PM Was the GT you drove 5-speed or 4R?

no dude.. From a roll the gt's hardly pull. I raced a gt at the track and he ran a 14.2. Theres no way it would go 13.6 on street tires.

just because the 1 you raced went 14.2 doesnt mean they all do.
my cobra went 13.3 does this mean all cobras are slow? no.
it just means i need new tires. it was spinning bad in 3rd.
i have personally witnessed a stock automatic 05 GT run 13.8 the automatics are noticably slower than manual

[Edited for no no] I was basing it on the cars that I saw.. I could care less if you saw a rocket ship land in your backyard, im going by what I have seen. Hell, Ive seen roush's go 14's. No 2 cars are the same. I know that there are stock 05 gt's that have been dipping into the 13's. But I have yet to see one.
The end. have a nice day.:)

good ol 4r70w i trapped it at 14.7@96 for her once.
it just feels so much more connected, almost like its a manual. im not interested in the suspension diffrences, but the diffrence in the responsivenes in the powertrain.

Four possible reasons on why it was more responsive:
1.) Later model 4R70W with improved internals and torque converter.
2.) SOHC 4.6 has better low/mid-end torque, therefore a better off-the-line response. We don't make our responsiveness until 3,000 RPMs.
3.) Curb weight; we have nearly a half ton of extra weight on the Mark VIII.
4.) Solid axle with locker on the GT makes a better start. Our dog leg IRS gives us a more comfortable ride; but the bad news is that when our bushings and pieces wear, the power doesn't get to the wheels as good as it used to and we get "wheel hop"...
Jeffguy11 August 25th, 2006, 12:30 PM GTs piss me off some times.....i tried to race one a few days ago, i think it was an 03 or so, and the guy just looked at me and shook his head as if i was out of my league or something.... little did he know ive got a nicer version of his motor. I enjoy goin out wiht my buddy in his modded out supercoupe and showing GTs whats up hahaha

Yeah they do and I have beaten every mustang I have ever raced of any year except for a supercharged 91 at the track But I guess that doesnt count so I am undefeated! And The new mustangs will rape a Mark stock for stock all day

1.I have the builit lms trans, so im ruling that out
2. That was my first thought
3.that im sure has a bit to do with it, but it just doesnt seem to be the answer, atleast to me...it may be though
4. this is true, it definatly hooks very nicely at wot on the track, but arround town i didnt wot it, and it still felt better. it just feels like theres a solid connection between the accelerator and road, lol. I havent driven a mark with a stock stall in a long time, so that may be it too.
4.6powa August 25th, 2006, 10:29 PM Yeah they do and I have beaten every mustang I have ever raced of any year except for a supercharged 91 at the track But I guess that doesnt count so I am undefeated! And The new mustangs will rape a Mark stock for stock all day
speakin of that on the way home today a 94-95 stang was messin with me, stayin beside me and revvin up.. so i punched it, and he punched it. i not only pulled ahead of him, but i kept pulling away.. not sure what he had for mods. definately exhaust. neways. i got a kick out of it..
Lincolns Own August 25th, 2006, 10:42 PM i walked a rich kid in an 04 GT the other day from a 30 roll. we went to 110 and i killed his ass. then he comes up and opens the window, calling me a pussy, and my car was a piece of :q:q:q:q. mustang owners are so grouchy

I would have raped your car and I was an AOD 90 LX.

hint.....stock for stock.
i see you have the bunny. i didnt get around to putting it in my sig here yet.
LuxFord August 27th, 2006, 06:40 PM 2 days ago i raced the new mustange rolling at about 40 my car wouldnt kick down but he SMOKED me completely i had no chance what so ever. we went probably 3blocks and he had me by atleast 4-5cars. it had exhaust that i know of. im stock :( though
95Marklll(Kingcobra) August 29th, 2006, 04:57 PM Im prob gonna be racing my friends 88 GT hes got intake and exhuast and its auto. I think I can take him my cars bone stock with a K&N panel filter so Its bone stock, Im gonna cut out the mufflers soon but what gains are there, lol. But I love giving ppl what a call the Mark 8 experience, Im 18 and I get alot of my friends looking at the car like wtf are u taking about its quick, so I just give them a ride somewhere then without warning gun it, lol. My cousin abought :q:q:q:q a brick when I gunned it, I was at a stop in turn lane waiting for a clearing hes in the passengers seat eclipse this tiburon that bunch of import :q:q:q:q, so I without warning gun it as I turn and im fish tailing till about 60 and I get off of it, lol he apologized for dissing the car and now he wants one, lmao. But quick question If im at a roll of 10 and gun it sometimes the tires chearp other times nothing od on or off it doesent effect it other times I chirp at 35 wtf is this, im also due for a oil change would that due anything idk maybe my car has sludge build up like the commercials lol, but I have noticed latley a power decrece and Im about due for new oil, Its been a yr but its only seen 3k during that yr It sat for couple months waiting for my license, but since then has been on long road trips and some fun driving, so idk what u guys think.
brentalan August 29th, 2006, 06:46 PM I attribute it to the combination of 650lbs less weight, numerically lower drive axle, locking rear, and if it is a 5-speed, the lower first gear ratio. All that combined with some of the small things others have pointed out make the 04 Mustang GT a faster car.
The Professor August 29th, 2006, 06:56 PM Yeah they do and I have beaten every mustang I have ever raced of any year except for a supercharged 91 at the track But I guess that doesnt count so I am undefeated! And The new mustangs will rape a Mark stock for stock all day
If you ever find yourself in Arizona look me up. I'll bet you my next paycheck you don't beat every Fox you run across. For your statement to even be remotely plausible you'd need to be running consistently in the 13's and the Foxes would have to be bone stock. I know a few people personally that have 12 second Foxes and are considered stock. I know for a fact you'd get your ass handed to you by my Fox.
MediumD August 30th, 2006, 06:23 AM I know a few people personally that have 12 second Foxes and are considered stock.
Totally believable. And this is a stock Cougar:

Take your bull:q:q:q:q somewhere else, I don't post much and I post even less bull:q:q:q:q. Mike H. - a member of the Arizona Mustangs - with basic suspension upgrades, an exhaust system and the ability to drive had a stock 5.0 running 12.9X
MarkVIII93 August 30th, 2006, 02:09 PM My friend got his 90 lx t-5 to run 13.5 with sh1tty traction. Id say it would be possible with a nice suspension and a good driver.
MediumD August 31st, 2006, 05:57 AM Stock Fox, no. 03-04 Cobras have a hard time pulling off 12s stock. If you mean stock motor Fox, fine, that's a bit different.

You need to comprehend what is written. "Considered" stock is what I wrote, not "a stock Fox". Eitherway, 9 out of 10 times they (and any other modern V8 Mustang) will eat your Lincoln alive.
KC96LSC August 31st, 2006, 10:36 AM I don't race much, but I do usually come out on top. I lost to an LS bad, but I think he had done something to it. I don't know for sure. My buddy has a 97 Mustang Saleen #14 and I take him without a problem. I had a 90 or 91 stang kick my ass. Most races I get to do are usually mustangs and I can beat most of them. But honestly not all of them. I will give up some quickness for luxury and styling any day though. Don't get me wrong I like the looks of most Mustangs, but there are just so many of them
invisiblelincoln August 31st, 2006, 02:16 PM I was doing some research on what you were talking about and I found out the main difference between the two vehicles. The Gt feels more responsive because it actually runs, instead of sitting in the middle of the street, on jackstands with a cover on it. :D

Yea, but I bet you get great gas mileage eeeh!

Ah, sorry, I wasn't aware that "considered stock" means "stock, except for these aftermarket parts we tacked on."
As for my particular Lincoln, it's almost stock, and still beats stock and mildly modified 98 and earlier GTs. I haven't lined up with many mild or stock Foxes because there aren't many, but I was dead even with my friends 90 LX/MT5 (all it has is some exhaust,) oh, and my ETC pulled him. :D So if modern means 99+, then yep they'll beat me.
marked8 August 31st, 2006, 08:29 PM I think some people here have not heard of stock eliminator. Bob Cosby ran well into the 12's in his low optoned 88 LX way back in the day in this class.
