Paint the transmission?

My new transmission just arrived this morning. Before it gets installed, would I do any harm by painting it with a coat of POR or something like that?

I know it's not necessary, but it might be a nice cosmetic touch and it can only be done while it's out.. Is there a downside to doing it?

If you think I should- what color/brand.

What transmission did you get and where?

A friend of mine with a few Kennedy Transmissions up in Minnesota built it for me. It's a rebuilt 4R70W with a shift kit and some valve body work. I've known him for a while and I've heard nothing but praise for his work. So when the time came to address mine, I contacted him.

But now I'm just wondering if I should paint it black... I don't think POR comes in any other color.

Can't hurt anything at all. My transmission case is powdercoated and I have never suffered any problems. It is a standard option from most transmission builders. Cost me $150 extra.

I think 94m5 will probably have better recommendations than I on the how/what to use for painting, but no, it will not hurt the transmission in anyway.

BTW, I had mine done in black to match my scattershield. ;)

I didn't think of powder coating the transmission until the other day, and then it was too late.

I was thinking I could just get a pint of black POR-15 Rust Preventive Paint and apply that, carefully. I think that limits my choices to black or black though.

The surface isn't clean enough to use the Engine Enamel paint.

POR comes in silver too!

Yeah, I see that now.
Black, Grey, Semi-gloss Black, Silver, and Clear.

Any down side to doing this? Any chance it'll make it more difficult to cool?
Any benefit?

Actually- there's no rust, so I could just use a high temp engine paint....

POR comes in all sorts of colors. They had the correct Mopar colors for my engine, which I did. High temp engine paint should work too.
