Okay, so today I got my codes checked to see what was up with my car.

And it could be either the 02 Sensors, MAF sensor, Ignition misfire repair or a fuel injector problem

The 02 sensors are probable because the car is 80,000 miles old, and they haven't been changed yet. What are the best 02 sensors that I could buy for my car? I am getting 10.7 MPG so this is worth a shot if it isn't even the problem

Something else that I realized is that the Mass Air Flow Sensor is also probable, because I was following http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=24526 that thread. I sprayed electric cleaner in the MAF wires, so maybe that could be the problem.

Can anyone just help me with this? I really really need help and anyone who could give me a hand I would greatly appreciate it.

idk my friend. iv been dealing with the same demon as you for the last month. iv done everything except the maf, and now its at the point where its affecting the driveability of the vehicle, not just the mpg (which is down to below 10, lol) As soon as i grab me some cash im gonna get a new maf. If your not pulling codes for the O2 specificly, dont bother unless your doin it yourself, cuz unless you have money to throw arround, they may not solve your problems. do whatever came up on the codes, not a guess of what came from the people that pulled the codes.

actually if its givin a misfire, i would check the plug wires. thats always been my problem when i have a major misfire.

if there is no misfire, i would rule out the fuel injector.

if you dont get it the first time $hit starts to add up quick, especially if you dont do the work yourself.

That arises my next question. Me and a very close family friend are pretty experienced with cars. Hes a complete motor head... would we be able to do the 02 sensor replacement, or is that totally out of the picture?

Ford O2s are the best for this application. I have a '97 too and found out that Ford originally procured these from NGK-NTK, according to Max at 5 Star. He can hook you up w/ what you need.

If you have a miss-fireing cylinder, move the Coil pack(s) to another cylinder and see if the issue follows.

Electrical cleaner on the MAF wires shouldn't hurt them unless the wires had gotten broken. I use brake cleaner myself. Its pressurized alcohol and doesn't leave a film on the wires.

Could you post the numbers you had gotten from the OBDII scan?

You can do it!!! Just make sure that the Cats are completely cool to the touch. The drivers side is a pita, the passenger side is not all that bad.

its not hard when you jack it up, and its pritty simple when you put it on a lift.

lets step back a second,

do you know the actual codes you are getting,

i too have used autozone for free codes, but i dont always go by what they recommend replacing,

the tried to sell me an egr valve for my taurus, all i needed was to clean the intake passage.

they get a code and just go by what there in store computer tells em.

post the codes here for some better help possibilites.
