Creaking trunk lid

I have a 99 ETC with an automatic mechanism that pulls and latches the trunk lid in when I close it.

Upon opening however it always does so ever so slowly and creaks a lot while doing so. The mechanism is hidden behind the carpeting.

What can I do to get the creaking to go away as this is embarrasing considering it is supposed to be a luxury car to compete with the likes of BMWs and Mercedesses?

Mine does that as well but it never bothered me until you just mentioned it. My guess would be to put some type of grease on the parts that are rubbing together(if you can get to them) or WD40 but I believe WD40 would only be a quick fix where as the grease will last longer:D .

Yep... disassemble and lubricate.

its not the motor making that noise it is the twisted metal bars that run bewteen the hinges that "push" the trunk deck up when you pop it.
