Re-finished trunk lock cover

MarkVIII93
July 5th, 2006, 01:13 PM
Yesterday I was extremely bored, so I thought Id take a stab at refinishing my trunk lock cover. I got it off, sanded it and then painted the back side black. Tell me what you think.

First I removed the carpet covering the nuts that hold the tailight assembly on, then I removed the nuts themselves, then there are 2 small screws that hold the center trunk lock cover onto the tail light assembly.. I removed those. Then there is a small hole in the back side of the trunk lock cover, which i decided to wrap a small screw driver with tape and pop the plastic piece out. Its a lot less complex than it seems. Hey Msm8stress! I have an extra one sitting right next to me. I can send it to you free via US mail. All you will have to do is remove the tail lights, then the TL cover.

Well, when you pop the plastic piece out. The lincoln star is engraved I guess you could say, into the back side. All I do is sand everywhere BUT the star is. And it comes out that the surrounding is clear and the star is still chrome because the back side of the paint hasnt been touched. Then you sand the backside clear part with higher grit sp. Then you wipe the surface down with an adhesive cleaner/remover. I just used "trim black" paint. Made by SEM. The pictures dont do justice, you must see this piece in person.

Yeah, Just sand everywhere except for where the star is until the red goes away. If you havent even started yet... You have to get the adhesive off the back first, Then sand it down.

Oh every now and then someone get's a little testy but you will find that LvC members don't go for members slamming each other.

Pissing matches get stopped quick...

And there is nothing wrong with a Mustang... Mark VIIIs in my opinion are Mustangs that have grown up... Still have some muscle, not as quick, but lots of class..

But like maturity as long as you work out you can play with youth.

im not trying to start something just stating my opinion. no if i owned a cobra i wouldnt put a lincoln emblem on my car. i also wouldnt put a mustang emblem on my mark. the svt badge isnt just for cobras. many cars have that title, focus, contour, cobra, mustang cobra. it stands for "special vehicle team" im not killing the look of the car, having that tag there. im just making a point of what it has under the hood, since not alot of ppl have heard of a mark viii. and if they dont believe it (like a thunderbird with a v-tech type r emblem... yes i saw one) then all i have to do is prove it at the next stop light.

Would it be retarded to put subtle skyline badges on a Infinit G35?

And is it retarded to put any badge on a car, other than stock, that denotes the engine size, displacement, or performance enhancements, such as a 281 badge on the Mark?

And is it retarded to buy a Pontiac Lemans and restore it to look like a GTO clone?

An SVT badge does not denote engine size, displacement (which is the same thing incidentally), or performance enhancements. Plus, why would anyone want to advertise that they only had 4.6 liters?

In short. Yes, it is retarded.

And is it retarded to buy a Pontiac Lemans and restore it to look like a GTO clone?

Apples to hand grenades. Not even a close analogy. You could restore a Lemans and make it look pretty much identical to a goat. No amount of modification or restoration will create an SVT Mark VIII, since it never existed.

Would you make fun of a ricer who put a Type-R emblem on his accord?

Why would it be "retarded" to denote a G35 with a skyline refrence?

Because a G35 is not a Skyline, it's a G35. Besides, your analogy is incorrect anyway. Even if those two cars are amazingly similar, there is no SVT vehicle that is similar to a Mark VIII.

Why wouldn't you?

Who cares if you have 281 cubic inches? That's you and the other 3254068406784605 Ford cars and trucks on the road.

I usually don't chime in on this crap. But, Let people do what ever they wont to their cars Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that you are correct or incorrect. Let people be people. Let it go and if you can't, then grow up. Sorry this thread just got under my skin. Some might say, changing the color of the emblem from red to another color is not stock. That would be a fair argument, it's not stock. It doesn't mean we have to follow those rules, does it? NO. Let people be themselves. I think a part of maturity is every time someone does something you don't like. Try keeping the mouth shut. There have been many times I think something looks like CRAP. I don't feel I have to post it. It's just MY opinion. Thank GOD for diversity, otherwise this would be one boring life.

The Mark is a 2 door luxury muscle car plain and simple. I don't care who thinks what is retarded. I made a car that Ford SHOULD have made imho.

How many cobras have you seen with lincoln badges on them?

look, whether you agree with the svt badge or not, nobody is talking about "COBRA" badges, these are "SVT" badges

SVT can be a damn ford focus,a lightning pickup, possible someday it will mean a ford fusion.

SVT is a performance division of Ford,
not one car (cobra)

I persoanlly have no problem seeing SVt on a mark viii.

Moes8
July 12th, 2006, 03:42 AM
There was never an SVT Mark VIII, and thusly, I think it's retarded to put the emblem on. How is that any different than putting a GT-R emblem on a car that never had a GT-R model?

is it retared to put a different size wheel(17",18" etc) on a car that only came with 16"

no! its not,

and neither is a small Ford performance badge either.

whether you like it or not,its not wrong.
in your world it seems any form of "customization" is wrong, since an SVT badge is just that.

You know what! I really dont care if you put svt badges on your car because you most likely live 200 miles or more away from me. And its very likely that I will not see your car in person ever. You know, whatever you want to do man. If you wanna go ahead and put a cobra R wing on your car.. or better yet... one uh them eezzz vveee teee wings.

MarkVIII93
July 12th, 2006, 08:42 AM
The Cobra doesnt share the Lincoln characteristics like a Lincoln shares the Cobra's. We had the engine first.

The Mark is a 2 door luxury muscle car plain and simple. I don't care who thinks what is retarded. I made a car that Ford SHOULD have made imho.

I modified it to out perform with Cobra's of it's era and look just as aggressive and clean, rear wing, tasteful wood grain delete via carbon fiber, 17x9 Cobra R wheels, lowered stance and YES SVT emblems even on the trunk lid.

http://www.lincolnmotorsport.com/lplateback.jpg

I guess Im a retard then, but then again what do I know.

I seen a F-150 with Caddillac badges and a Caddillac decal in the rear window, with chrome grill 24's, I wanted to beat this person senseless. Then If thats not bad enough I see a F-150 with a Mercedes emblem wired on right over the FORD blue oval in the grill you can still see it too. So theres alot worse things then puting SVT on a sport luxury equiped with a cobra before it was ever seen in a mustang. Atleast its a emblem from the same manufacturer come on Mercedes emblem on a F-150 what the hell.

That is our copyrighted company logo and cannot be reproduced for sale period!

I said earlier in this thread we will have a test version made this weekend and will be ready ship next week in CHROME and it will not look cheesy like the one pictured, that one doesn't even have the star seperated from the Cobra, it's all just run together and looks cheap.

It's just a single one that my friend had made. No one is going to try to sell this item as everyone knows that it is Geno's design. However what was one to do without one availible from LMS? Now that they have one we won't have to make our own! How much will they cost? Cheesy? Well I don't know about that? It might not look as good as the one you will have but I think it still looks pretty good for like $8. We all Like your cobrastar design! OH wait! It's not a cobra so does it belong on there? LOL.

Not sure what that means? No, I'm not trying to be too sensitive. I guess if you think it's O.K. to use it because it's older than the internent, then feel free to do so. I don't see the justification. I started reading this thread so I could redo my trunk emblems. Instead of getting ideas about how to do it, the thread goes from trying to help people and present ideas to posts from people on here that want to slam someone else's idea and resort to name calling.
