How is it done. I asked some friends, they looked at it and were as baffled as was I. I need to disconnect it in order to change some stuff with my stereo and I am scared to mess with it with the Neg connected. If you guys could let me know how to do trhis id greatly appreciate it

in the trunk near the spare tire. just loosen the nut on the black cable and pull it off the battery terminal

i've loosened the nut there, but the cable still will not come off. Its like its welded onto it or something.

I just remove the 8mm bolt holding the negative cable to the chassis - it's easier than try to pull the cable off the battery post.

Why do you need to dissconnect it anyways? I installed car stereo for 5 years and hardly ever disconnected the battery. It's 12volts the shock isnt going to kill you or do anything to your car unless you have no clue what you are doing. if thats the case you shouldnt be messing with your rig anyway.

ohh trust me i know what i am doing, however i have never seen that kind of connector on a battery post before. Nor have any of my friends or family, so if you have nothing to say then please just shut it with the smart ass remarks.

If you are messing with amps or anything you can just pull the inline fues out on the power cable.

I too have installed MANY stereos, in many different cars. I have NEVER unhooked the battery. Never had a problem either.

Can't say i wasn't expecting this post. LEts see. Do you like that little spark that occurs when you do not discon it. I don't. Simple as that.

I asked a question that should recieve a simple answer. I didnt ask for you to lecture about how many car stereos you had installed nor how many years you had been doing it. THats why I asked the question here. b/c I know you all know what you are talking about. Needless to say that maybe I don't need to do this, but anytime i do anything electrial I like to be safe. If you don't want to answer me then dont do it.

So removing the bolt is effectively doing the same thing as removing the connector off of the post. I didn't relize this. Thanks. At lease you always provide me with an answer. I appreciate it!!!

You want to remove any connection from the battery to the vehicle. It doesn't matter what end of the cable you remove. But on some cars, there will be an extra pigtail on the battery cable that will still remain grounded to the battery if you just disconnect the chassis end of the cable. That can cause more damage than you can imagine if you forget to hook up the chassis bolt and try and start the car or turn something on that uses a lot of power.

We're not being a smart ass...well...maybe a little. We could have chosen our words more carefully. But the reason we say this is because anyone with any experience around a car at all knows how to disconnect a battery...or at least easily figure out the connection and how it works. Seriously. We think you may be over estimating your skills here a bit....

I think i did provide you with an answer. You dont need to unhook it, thats my answer. I answer that through experience.

And no, i have NEVER seen a spark when installing any stereo. Maybe you just arent doing it right.

very funny my friend. i did the install before i came here to ask the question. Scared the hell out of me w/o disconnecting the neg, but i did it. I want to fix a few things now, but was hoping that someone here would enlighten me . I fianlly realize that the point in asking questions here is none. So screw it and MOST of you.

If your that Mechanically Challange, you should not be working with Cars. Sorry, but its the truth
