Does anybody think it could be the Ram Air mod? shoving air down the throat at unnesasary times?
These were all tooken by the profesional photographer at the track

MarkVIII93 June 28th, 2006, 01:31 PM Nice R/T's, The 60's are pretty decent too. Your trap speeds are those of a low 16 second car. Id try taking the ram air off, and putting a K&N in it.(if you dont already have one) Oh and I noticed that when i left overdrive on along with traction control. My car ran a 15.1 compared to the 14.9's that it was pulling previously that afternoon. It looks like your car starts to slow down toward the end of the track.

i agree, cept for the cheepshot at the ram air :)
sounds like you dont have the top end hp that your supposed to. any cels?
btw, good racin. glad you finally got to the track.
02LSE96LSC91SE84TC June 28th, 2006, 02:33 PM With that 60' you should be in the high 14s even with a Gen II. The trap is low but I wouldn't say 16 sec. range. My LSE does 15.0 with only 93. I would guess either a tune up or a weak fuel pump or something is not allowing it to pull full WOT potential. That 2.1 60' is very good.
ONEBADMK8 June 28th, 2006, 02:37 PM Whats the mileage?

my brothers mark vii trapped at 89 and ran a 16.1 when it was stock.
MarkVIII93 June 28th, 2006, 02:47 PM Hmmm... IMRC's possibly? Just a thought.
MrWilson June 28th, 2006, 02:51 PM goin with fuel pump possibly?

Gearing, weight and traction has alot to do with it. Your right thats a low trap with its weight and power, it typically pulls harder in the second half of the track, thats how you can tell its running out of power. My 78 Mustang ran 14.7 with only 92.
Nitrobasher June 28th, 2006, 03:45 PM Its got 100k miles on it. With the stock Fuel pump i believe. I dont know what to do I heard that changing a fuel pump is a pain in the ass!?
Is it a 1 day job or what?
PioneerCrazed June 28th, 2006, 04:09 PM I don't think the fuel pump should be too bad, I've never changed it but have dropped the tank. Ray has a great writeup around here somewhere.
What is the elevation of the track?
EDIT: Fuel Pump How-to...

True, There are too many variables to base one car's times and speeds on another.
chickenviii June 28th, 2006, 05:46 PM thats about the same as my 98 lsc my best was 15.2 but that was bone stock, air silencer and all just wanted a base line, yup us gen 2 guys got the short end of the 1/4 stick but we got the better trans AH HA HA HA HA AHHHHHH HAAAAA HA HA HA
vr4 June 28th, 2006, 05:50 PM have you ever changed the filter?
mine picked up 2mph from a basic tune (plugs, fuel filter, injector flush, decarb)
it only had 23k on it and the filter had been changed once (fram. yuck)
JC1994 June 28th, 2006, 05:51 PM cool man I hope you had a good time at the track. it's not worth it messin' around on the streets....:)
02LSE96LSC91SE84TC June 28th, 2006, 05:58 PM Still think with those 60's, the trap and time should be better.
MediumD June 28th, 2006, 07:28 PM I agree the 60' is great but trap and ET are low. What kind of weather and track conditions were you experiancing at the time of the runs?
ONEBADMK8 June 28th, 2006, 07:45 PM goin with fuel pump possibly?
You know it Bro. With that mileage the filter and pump are done. The MPH totally reflects the lack of under a load fuel delivery/pressure.

Filter in wheel well or in the tank/screen? I'm at 92k, I did the fuel filter not to many miles ago. I'm putting in a 255 Walbro in the tank soon, already have it, just have to do it once shes running again. Is there a filter/screen I should get and do when I tackle it.
Is this that common that its a no brainer? I'm doing mine regardless as more mods are going to follow.
Dr. Paul June 28th, 2006, 08:44 PM Ice the intake manifold. The difference can be pretty significant.
*edit* - I agree with the fuel pump comment. I had a car exhibit similar symptoms and a fuel pump swap made it feel like a new car again.
mlschultz June 28th, 2006, 09:04 PM You should be around 15.0-3 @ 93-5 mph for a stock 98 LSC. Great 60' times. Pull the DTC codes, and I suspect you might find that your IMRC's are not opening up. No CEL will show, so check anyway. Your mph is way too low. Use Seafoam, and Lucas Top Cylinder lube and fuel system cleaner. Change your air filter, loose the ram air mod, and change your PCV, fuel filter, spark plugs, and you should run these times all day long. I have a 98 LSC, and had this happen to me. Good Luck.

good info but you will get a CEL when the IMRCs dont open.

Sorry to disagree, but I did not get a CEL when my IMRC's did not open. I found the code on my SCT Xcal2 pulling DTC's, but never got the CEL. I verified they did not work by data logging the IMRC's via XCal2 to my lap top computer.
edit: I see in your sig that you have a 95 Mark. It might be true that you get a CEL on a 95, but on a 98 OBD2, no CEL.

actually im a tech for an FLM dealer. we get CELs for IMRC failure every once in a while.
my last 1 was on a 96 (IIRC) windstar.

I had a P1519 code - Inlet Manifold Runner Control Malfunction (Stuck Closed). When I went to the track, this was my BEST time while the IMRC's were stuck closed with stock BTC0 tune and no CEL. Had me scratching my head since there was no CEL. Checked and cleared DTC's, and did the aforementioned pm - then checked for DTC's again - none this time :) , and picked-up 3 tenths like magic:
Stuck IMRC:
60'..........2.282
330.........6.559
1/8........10.004
MPH.......73.30
1000......12.944
1/4........15.394
MPH.......91.78
Not Stuck IMRC:
60'..........2.346
330.........6.465
1/8.........9.806
MPH......74.58
1000.....12.635
1/4.......15.019
MPH......94.09
Nitrobasher June 29th, 2006, 10:36 PM hm that looks kinda similar.. seeing as how is 60' was pretty low along with his 1/8's? how much do these IMRC's cost
mark0101 June 30th, 2006, 08:23 AM with IMRC, you don't replace the part you clean that part. I had the CEL on my 97 Mark VIII. it cost me about $300 but try seafoam.
chickenviii July 1st, 2006, 02:08 PM ok well after reading through all of this i decided to try and find all of my old slips and by the looks of it i prolly need a fuel pump also cuz most of my times are the same as nitro's heres the ones that im willing to post cuz it was from last year at GLD and it was my first time at the track and i got in 15 runs!!! (slow overcast day with chance of rain so it was empty :headbang:)
#1
R/T .016
60' 2.465
330 6.816
1/8 10.319
mph 70.84
1000 13.291
1/4 15.765

me and my friend with the t-bird both thought we red lighted but stayed on it he got a .036 R/T and a 15.906 in the 1/4
#2
R/T .422
60' 2.284

1/8 9.953
mph 72.30
1000 12.859
1/4 15.294
mph 92.37
as you can tell the 2nd and 3rd time i posted the track temps dropped from the 90's to the 70's when the storm clouds started rolling in but whoo hoo, no rain

R/T .157
60' 2.267

so does this look like a bad fuel pump too everyone else, rember that these are gen 2 times with only the air silencer removed. and latley ive noticed when i pass people the cats are starting to stink a little so prolly going lean (fuel filter not to old and new o2's but not in the times posted above)
vr4 July 1st, 2006, 02:12 PM hook up a fuel pressure guage, tape it to the windshield and head out and push it thru 1st and 2nd.
if pressure starts to drop off as the RPMs go up you either have a weak pump or a dirty ass filter.
