96 Deville with an oil issue

I have a 96 Deville that seems to be using oil - it will go from Full to Add on the dipstick in 3,000 miles. No clouds of blue smoke or any emissions issues (passesd inspection in late March). Is this normal for the engine to go thru that much oil in 3,000 miles?

Im taking it to the dealer when I get some time off of work (cooling system flush & fill along with transmission fluid change) - should I have the dealer look at the engine?

a quart in 3,000 miles is not unrealistic for an older engine. It would be nice to not have to add any, but that little bit isn't worth worrying about.

if it's running good and passed inspection.....leave well enough alone.

I see your getting your trans. fluid changed, are you having it power flushed or just drained, from what I've read it's not a good idea to power flush trans.,especially older vehicles. Ken

its the northstar, i have only talked to a handful of cadillac owners who didnt experience oil consumption with their cars. gm stated that it was perfectly normal for the northstar to consume 2 quarts of oil every 3k miles, which is why instead of fixing the problem, they slapped a 7 quart oil pan under it.
